The door opened and Barbara Jones, Susans other best friend and flatmate entered. She had a massive grin on her face, bigger than usual. She walked into the room energetically with a weird elegance that only she could pull off. Susan looked at her cautiously. Barbara was the type of person who wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted and could get very competitive if needs be. It frightened Susan to death.
"What have you done?" Susan asked forwardly. Barbara only made them faces when she had done something or when she had a terrible idea.
"What do you mean? I haven't done anything." Barbara looked at her with a confused expression.
"You look too happy." Barbara laughed.
"Is it that obvious?" Susan nodded. "Well..." Barbara grinned again and sat down on the settee next to Susan. "Guess what I've got."
"Plastic surgery," Linda commented from her desk.
"No." Barbara denied frustratedly.
"I thought you wanted to get a Brazilian butt lift?" Barbara turned slightly in Linda's direction.
"Not anymore." She gritted her teeth. "I was thinking about it but now I've changed my mind." She turned back to Susan and grinned again. "I've got something better." She said excitedly.
"A breast implant?" Linda continued but this time Barbara didn't respond.
"I don't like guessing just tell me." Susan couldn't wait to hear what she had. She was hoping it was going to be something good instead of some tat that Barbs liked collecting. She was always bringing home weird trinkets that she had found in various shops. Her friend smiled.
"I've got a date tonight." She said proudly. Susan's face didn't react like Barbara had expected or hoped. She frowned. "What?"
"Barbs, you have a date all the time!" Susan stated. "And every time you come back saying it was boring."
"I don't always have a date." Barbara denied defensively.
"You do," Linda said from her desk. Linda loved adding fuel to the fire. It was her biggest trait.
"Don't you have paper cuts to be getting to?" Barbara spat. Linda ignored her shot.
"I'm just saying Barbs." Susan tried to sound apologetic. "You need to slow down with all this dating, it's not good for you." Barbara gave her a blank stare. "Who is this guy anyway?" Her blank stare morphed into a cheeky grin.
"You won't believe me." She giggled.
"Who?" Susan asked.
Barbara smiled. "You know the Beatles right?" Susan sighed.
"Of course I do, you never shut up about them." It was true, Barbara was obsessed with the Beatles just like the rest of the Uk at this time. It was impossible not to know them. Susan liked some of their music but she wasn't a big fan and she had only heard of their music because of Barbara. She never stopped playing their records.
"Here we go," Linda rolled her eyes. She didn't like the Beatles. She didn't understand the attraction that everyone else had for them. She wouldn't have known of their existence if it weren't for Barbara.
"Well... George Harrison the lead guitarist-"
"Wait." Susan interrupted. "You're telling me you're going on a date with George Harrison?" Barbara smiled. "The lead guitarist for the Beatles..." Susan looked at her for a moment. She couldn't tell if she was joking or not. "You're lying."
Barbara sighed. "I knew you wouldn't believe me."
"How can I? This is the worst lie you've ever told."
"It's the truth!" Barbara said abruptly. Linda laughed at her words.
"Well, how did you meet him? Where did you meet him?" Susan questioned.
"I gave him my number at a signing they did a few days ago. We've been talking ever since." Susan was still unsure. How could Barbara know a Beatle let alone be going on a date with one she thought.
"Okay well-"
"There's more!" Barbara interrupted. "I told him about you."
"You told him about me?" Susan sounded nervous.
"Don't worry it's nothing bad. I just told him about your dating situation." Barbara said casually. Susan's eyes widened.
"My dating situation?! What do you mean my dating situation?"
"I just told him that you haven't been on a date in a while that's all." Barbara shrugged. Susan stared at her for a moment, gob-smacked.
"What?!" Susan cried hysterically.
"That's not even the best bit." Barbara grinned.
"There is no best bit!" Susan argued.
"Trust me it gets better." Susan shook her head.
"How? How does this get better?"
"After I mentioned you, he said that he knew a guy who hadn't been on a date in a while too." Barbara smiled whereas Susan wasn't getting the message. "So..."
"Just tell me," Susan demanded.
"We're going on a double date!"
