The engagement party, or what was then being called the engagement party, was underway. The drinks were getting poured and the shots were already being lined up. Susan, a little weary to drink after her little sickly phase in the morning, was on the fence about whether or not she should join in. She wanted to of course. It was her engagement party after all. But, just the thought of getting drunk was petrifying. What if she had a turn? What if the sickness came back and was ten times worse?
Linda joked about her being pregnant. That wasn't true at all. But Susan was still thinking about it.
"Alright?" Ringo asked, snapping Susan out of her daze.
"Yeah." She nodded. Ringo smiled and pecked her on the cheek.
"Fiancé." He smirked.
Susan laughed. "Yeah."
"Right!" John bubbled. "Here we are." He started passing everyone a shot. Susan gulped, taking a quick breath when John came around to her. He held out the shot with a grin. "To the bride to be."
Susan looked at the shot. She could already smell the stench of acid on her throat. But, nevertheless, she took the shot from him and maintained a smile.
"To the soon to be, Mr and Mrs Starkey." He pronounced.
"Mr and Mrs Starkey." They all toasted and swigged their shots.
Susan grimaced and shook her head with regret. "Fucking hell Sues y'alright?" Barbara laughed.
"Yeah - yeah." Susan coughed. Suddenly, the nausea was back and she felt like she was going to faint. "Be back in a..." She barely managed to finish her sentence before rushing off to the bathroom to relieve herself.
Slamming the door, she fell to her knees and by an inch, got it all in the toilet. Still, even if she had thrown up on the floor, she wouldn't have cared. She just needed it out.
Lifting her head, she sighed and wiped her mouth. Her eyes were watering from the reflux. Her head turned when she thought she heard a knock at the door. Although, It could have been one of the others. They were getting drunk after all and things were known to get knocked around.
But then, as Susan was beginning to calm down, another knock followed the last, a much stronger one. "Hello?" Cynthia's voice was quiet through the door.
"Oh, hi Cyn." Susan tried to sound alright but her voice was so breathy it was useless. "Sorry, I'll only be a minute."
"Are you okay Susan?"
Susan stared at the wall. A question that seemed so easy to answer but when thinking about it, became the hardest question ever. Was she okay?
"...Yeah." Susan finally said and forced herself to stand. She pulled down the chain and the shot she barely had enough time to digest was flushed away, along with everything else she had in her system.
Opening the door, she was met with a sweet smiling Cynthia who looked as beautiful as ever with her long blond hair and peachy lips.
"I heard you're engaged." She smirked.
Susan blushed. "Uh yeah. That is true." She forced a smile even though all she wanted to do was lay on the floor.
"Congratulations." She said and gave Susan a hug.
Susan welcomed the embrace but felt even queasier afterwards. But, the smile prevailed. A thought popped into her head. "Actually. Can I talk to you about something?" She asked.
"Of course," Cynthia said without hesitation.
They walked into the bedroom and Cynthia beckoned Susan to sit down on the bed. Susan smiled, internally feeling the second hand guilt of Barbara and John's infidelity.
