Susan froze, her eyes widened to the point where they could pop out. She stared at him in disbelief.
"What?" She croaked. Everything was falling apart inside.
Ringo looked at her. He couldn't believe what he had just said. He took a breath. "I've... I've got a girlfriend." He said in a low voice. He knew it was over from the moment he said it.
Susan was lost for words, lost for breath, lost for everything. Only two minutes ago she was having one of the best times of her life, and now it was one of the worsts.
"What?"
"Do I need to spell it out for you?" He sighed. "I've got a girlfriend." Those words couldn't hurt him more. Susan swallowed, her eyes were starting to water. She took a breath and nodded. She looked down.
"Of course you do." She smiled hatefully.
"Susie..." Ringo started and went to hug her, but Susan flinched and moved away from him. "Susie." He said again, the pain evident in his voice. Susan moving away from him like he was dangerous was tearing him up inside. The last thing he wanted was for this girl he couldn't get over to be scared of him.
"Stay away from me." She managed to say even though it made her feel ill. "I don't want to see you anymore. I don't want to talk to you anymore. I don't..." She stopped. It was all too much.
"Susie." He said softly. "Just get in the car, and we can talk about this."
"You think I want to get in your car and talk to you?" She sighed. "I don't even want to look at you right now."
"It's not what you think." Ringo deadpanned.
"No, it isn't. You know what I thought." Susan laughed at her stupidity. "I was so stupid. You know I thought you were different from the rest." Ringo hung his head in shame. "I thought you were better than them." Susan smiled, tears rolling down her eyes. "And yet here I am. The fool."
"Please." Ringo pled. "Get in the car. Let me explain."
Susan laughed. "Yeah, right."
"I like you." Ringo cried.
"Oh wow is that what you say to all of them? Or is that a new trick you're trying out cause it doesn't. Fucking. Work." Susan started walking home, where ever home was.
"Susan!" She could him shout behind her. "Where are you going?" He cried.
"Home!" She shouted back, wiping away her tears.
"You don't know where you're going!" Ringo was right. Susan hadn't a clue where she was.
Susan crosses her arms. "I'll handle my self, thanks!" She sniffled.
Next minute she knew Ringo was right in front of her, panting from running after her. "Stop." He panted.
Susan stopped, her arms still crossed. She wiped her eyes again, trying to hide her sadness.
"Let it go." She ordered.
"At least let me take you home." He breathed. Susan stood her ground and stayed unresponsive. "We don't have to talk." He offered.
Susan glanced at him. He looked like he cared. "Promise?"
He looked at her faithfully. "Promise."
She sighed after a moment and looked him in the eyes. "Fine."
"Cheers." He thanked as they walked to the car.
"No talking." She reminded.
