Another day of the same old thing. At least, that's how school felt. I was lucky to have a group of good friends who made life out of school interesting. But in order to get to that part of the day, I had to get through some boring classes.
I wish I accepted Brent's offer of a ride to school, as it was a rainy morning. I grabbed my black umbrella from my closet and pulled my hood up.
"Be good Beau" I said before stepping outside. I opened my umbrella and started down the street. The rain would've been relaxing if I wasn't walking through it, trying not to get splashed by the cars driving by. At least it'll be relaxing to listen to during class.
The light rain turned into pouring rain by the time I got to school. As this was the case, I did not find the boys in our usual spot. I walked inside the school and closed my umbrella. After placing it in my bag, I went to find the others. I decided to try the library first.
I didn't realize how many kids liked to hang out in the library in the morning until I entered. Small groups of friends filled the room as everyone chatted and laughed. Kinda defeated the purpose of the library, but I'm sure no one was reading this early in the morning anyway. While trying to find the boys, I bumped into someone I didn't want to see.
"Weird seeing you without Brent being dragged along" Courtney giggled as I passed her. I stopped walking and turned to face her.
"For your information Courtney we aren't always together" I growled. "Thought I am looking for him now, but I'm sure he's not here if you are"
"What makes you think that?" She scoffed. "He still likes me"
"What do you mean still? He never did" I snapped back, making her mad.
"You don't know anything Jamie. You didn't know our relationship"
"I know enough" I walked off before our fight got psychical. I'm not sure if she would start a fist fight, but I knew I would if that argument went any longer.
I let the library and continued my search despite only having a few minutes until classes started.
"Jamie, over here" I heard Barry's voice so I turned to look. The four boys were standing by the staircase.
"Oh hey guys, I was looking for you" I said as I walked over to join them.
"Yeah, sorry we didn't think to tell you but we usually hang out here when it sucks to be outside" Eric said.
"Bet you wish you took that ride" Brent chuckled as I stood next to him.
"Yeah, but don't worry. It was my choice, and I'll live" I said.
"So you walked through this rain?" Zach asked.
"Yes. I mean, I have an umbrella" I said as I patted my bag. "So it wasn't that bad"
"Well, if it's still raining after school, we'll have to hang out indoors" Eric said. The first bell rang, getting our attention.
"Think of something Ebass" Brent said before walking off to class. I said goodbye to the others and followed Eric to class.
"So Eric, got any ideas?" I asked as we worked together in class.
"Give me time to think" Eric smiled as he continued working on a problem he was stuck on.
"Come on man, you have all the best ideas" I said, leaning against him.
"I'll let you guys know at lunch, okay?" He turned to face me and smiled.
"Aw alright" I stood up straight again and pouted.
"Let's just get back to work then" Eric looked back down at his paper and sighed. Couldn't blame him, I hated this class.
After class I said goodbye to Eric and went to find Brent. I figured I'd we walk to class together, Courtney couldn't harass one of us alone. I found him walking down the hall with Barry.
"Hey boys" I called out to them. Brent smiled and held his arms out for me. I walked over and embraced him before pulling away.
"How are you two?" I asked, now facing Barry.
"Today's so boring" Barry said with a shrug.
"Yeah, nothing exciting on a rainy day" Brent added.
"I guess, but I'm sure it'll get better" I said.
"I gotta head to class. See you two later" Barry continued down the hall, leaving me with Brent.
"Guess we should go too" Brent mumbled. I took his hand and smiled. He smiled back as we started towards our classroom.
Courtney sat at her desk and watched Brent and I enter the classroom. I knew she was waiting for us, but I didn't know why. We both ignored her as we took our seats.
"Hiya Brently" she said sweetly to her ex.
"Um, hi" Brent said back
"What's up?" I asked, jumping into the conversation.
"I wasn't talking to you" she eyed me up and down and frowned.
"Keep this up and you'll be sorry" I growled.
"No fights, please" Brent begged. I calmed down for him. If he wasn't here, I would jump her.
"Yeah, you wouldn't want to upset your man, would you?" Courtney asked smugly.
"Just ignore her" Brent whispered to me. I nodded and kept my head down. He kept talking to her, but I ignored them as I didn't want to stress more.
After class Brent and I went to meet up with the others.
"You okay?" Brent asked me as we sat down at our usual table. "You got quiet back there"
"Oh yeah, I just didn't want to fight with her" I said quietly.
"Yeah, I tried being polite to avoid a fight. I can't wait until schools over so we don't have to deal with her" he said. I nodded in agreement. Barry, Zach, and Eric all joined us at the table.
"So I was thinking" Eric started. We all turned towards him, waiting for his idea. "Zach told me his parents are going to be out all night, why don't we hang out as his house"
"Cause Zach's house is boring" Barry said, putting his head in his hand.
"Shut up man" Zach said with an annoyed tone. "Sorry you're house is so much cooler"
"Yeah, but my parents will be home, and they don't like you" Barry responded.
"I think it's sounds good" I chimed in before the two started fighting.
"Yeah, we'll find something to do" Brent added.
"Then it's settled. We'll all meet there" Eric said with a smile.
We spent the rest of lunch talking until the bell rang.
"Guess we better get going. See you guys later" Zach said. We all parted ways, Barry and I walked to class together.
"So is Zach's house really that boring?" I asked as walked side by side down the hall.
"Eh, there's just nothing to do. We usually sit around his room talking" he said, looking over at me as he spoke.
"Still better then being apart" I said with a shrug.
"Yeah, I guess you're right" Barry said. We got to our classroom and took our seats next to each other. "Hey, did you do the reading last night?"
"No. Did you?" I asked. Barry shook his head no.
"Guess we need to catch up then" he said. We pulled out our books and started reading to each other.
Class went by quickly with us reading to each other. It was always nice with Barry, but English was also a subject I enjoyed.
"Ugh, time for gym with Zach" I mumbled as the bell rang.
"Good luck" Barry said as he headed out the door. I put my book away in my bag before following him out.
I really wasn't in the mood for gym today. I got changed anyway and met Zach in the gymnasium.
"Hey" I mumbled as I joined him on the bench.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked as I leaned against him.
"I don't feel like doing this today. It's a cold rainy day outside" I said.
"And we're warm and dry inside, so what's the problem?" He asked.
"Forget it" I mumbled as I turned away from him. The coach blew his whistle, signaling for us to gather around him.
"Come on" Zach held his hand out for me. I hesitated before taking it and following him to the others.
The coach had us play basketball. Zach and I were on opposite teams, and I really wasn't feeling playing. I was standing off to the side, not really paying attention. That's when the ball suddenly flew towards my direction and hit my face.
"Sorry!" Of course Zach's the one who threw it. My nose was throbbing in pain.
"Jamie, sit out" the coach yelled. I happily agreed and went to the bench, pinching my now bleeding nose.
Once the coach checked on me, he let me go to the nurse. I came back with an ice pack to help the swelling. By the time I got back to the gym, everyone was ready for the bell to rang.
"You okay?" Zach asked.
"Yeah, but thanks for the makeover" I said sarcastically.
"I'm sorry" he exclaimed.
"Whatever man, I know you didn't mean it, just like last time" I smirked.
"You're not still mad about the dodgeball, are you?" He asked. I shook my head no and saw him sigh with relief. The bell rang, getting our attention.
"Well, let's go" I said. I picked up my bag from the locker room before walking with Zach to meet up with the others.
Everyone was already waiting out front for us. Zach was nice enough to wait for me as I returned the ice pack to the school nurse. As we stepped outside, I noticed it was still pouring out.
"J, are you okay?" Brent asked as we joined them.
"Yeah, ask Zach what happened" I said, glancing over at Zach.
"I went to pass the basketball and missed" he mumbled, kicking the dirt as he looked down.
"Don't get upset Zach, I forgive you" I said as I placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Can we talk about this later? I just want to get out of this rain" Eric whined. We all agreed and headed towards the parking lot. I got into Brent's truck with him and we took off for Zach's house.
