Party searching

One more school day before the weekend. That's what I told myself as I got out of bed. I changed into a Pearl Jam shirt and black shorts before heading downstairs.

Beau greeted me in the kitchen by jumping up on me.
"Morning buddy. Mom feed you yet?" I asked as I gave him a pat on the head.
"Yes I did" mom said with a chuckle. We both knew he liked to try and trick us for a second breakfast.
"I gotta go to school boy. I'll see you tonight" I said as I push him gently off me.
"Oh Jamie, I know you like staying out late, but your father and I were wondering if you wanted to do something as a family tonight" mom said. I froze in fear. I couldn't tell her about the party, but I also didn't want to bail on Brent.
"Uh, sorry mom. Important club meeting at school" I said as I grabbed my bag.
"Which club?" Dad asked as he walked down the stairs.
"It's, Uh, drama. Gotta go, I'll be late" I rushed out as quickly as I could. I knew that was a stupid answer, I'd never do drama or theater. I panicked. I hurried down the street in hopes of getting to school quickly.

I saw Brent's truck pull into the parking lot as soon as I walked onto school grounds. I rushed over to him and pulled him into my arms as soon as he stepped out of his truck.
"Woah, you okay?" He asked as he wrapped his arms around me. I nodded and placed my head on his shoulder.
"Rough morning" I mumbled. He held me tightly until I calmed down. It was nice knowing I felt safe with him.

"There you two are" Eric said as he walked over. I pulled away from Brent and saw Barry and Zach following.
"Sorry guys, I had a rough morning and needed a moment to calm down" I said.
"Everything okay?" Barry asked.
"Yeah, don't worry about it. I'll be fine" I said, making myself smile. I didn't need them all worrying about me.
"Alright then..." Eric said.
"So what's the plan for today?" Zach asked as he clapped his hands together.
"Party today guys. Keep an ear out for someone throwing one. If we don't hear anything by lunch, we plan our own" Eric said. The bell rang, catching our attention. I kissed Brent's cheek before following Eric inside to class.

"So seriously, what was wrong this morning?" Eric asked as we took our seats.
"Nothing, just drama with my parents is all. They stress me out" I mumbled.
"Ah, I see" he said.
"They don't like me hanging out with you guys" I said quietly.
"How come?" Eric asked with a head tilt.
"I don't know. After getting detention the first day here, they just don't trust me I guess" I put my head in my hand and sighed.
"Do they know we hang out all the time?" He asked.
"No. They think I hang out by self or go to clubs. They wanted me home tonight, so I lied" I admitted.
"So no party for you" Eric said with a snicker. I shook my head and smiled.
"I'm not staying home. I don't care if I get caught" I said. Eric smiled and nodded before our teacher called for our attention.

Eric and I heard nothing of any parties during class.
"I'll keep an ear out this block" he said. I nodded and waved goodbye before heading to my next class. Courtney bumped into me as we both tried entering the room.
"Move bitch" she said as she rolled her eyes. I stepped back, giving her room.
"Not in the mood today Courtney, sorry" I said as I followed her into the room from a distance. I took my seat and waited for Brent to arrive.

A few minutes late Brent strolled into the classroom only to be stopped by Courtney.
"Can we talk in the hall?" She asked before glaring over at me.
"Why does this have to be private?" Brent asked.
"Please?" She gave him her best puppy eyes.
"No Courtney. You can tell me here" he said as he took his seat.
"Fine. There's a party at Daniel's house tonight and I want you and your boys to be there" she said with a pout.
"We'd love to go, right Jamie?" He looked over at me and smiled.
"I'll be there" I said with a grin, angering Courtney. She fell silent the rest of class, which didn't bother us.

After class Brent and I walked down the hall together holding hands. We never officially called ourselves a couple, but I did enjoy his company. We entered the cafeteria and joined the others at our table.
"So Jamie and I heard about a party at Daniel's tonight" Brent said as we sat together.
"I heard the same thing. Daniel actually asked me if we all wanted to go" Zach added.
"So Daniel's place tonight then?" Eric asked.
"We can hang out at my place until it starts" Barry suggested.
"Sounds great Bear" Brent said. I felt nervous knowing this was actually happening, but I knew I'd be okay as long as I stuck with the boys.

Once the bell rang I left with Barry to class.
"So do you guys even know Daniel that well?" I asked him as we took our seats.
"Zach and Brent used to hang out with him when they were younger. They grew apart, but still get along" Barry explained. I just nodded and pulled out my book. Barry did the same and our conversation was over. We never really talked much during class.

After class I said goodbye to Barry and headed towards the gym. I saw Courtney in the hall on the way to there with some boy. I swear she was with someone different every day. Made me wonder if I'd see the two of them together tonight, or if she'll already have moved on.

I got to the locker rooms and changed into my gym clothes before joining Zach in the gym.
"Hey J" he said as I approached him.
"Hey Z, what's up?" I asked.
"I'm just excited for tonight. Wonder if I'll hook up with anyone" he said with a smile.
"I wish you luck" I said back with an eye roll. I wasn't judging him, it was just weird that he felt the need to start with that. The coach called for our attention so we gathered around him.

We ended up playing soccer during class. Zach and I were on the same team and did well together. We was fun to hang out with when he kept his big mouth shut. We did well but I was happy to stop playing when the bell finally rang. I changed back into my normal clothes before walking out with Zach.

We both met up with Eric outside.
"Hey Zach, need a ride to Barry's place?" He asked.
"Yeah, thanks" Zach said before the two said goodbye to me and headed to Eric's car. I didn't see Barry's car in the parking lot so he must have left already. I took a seat at the bench and waited for Brent. It wasn't a long wait before he came out of the school.
"Ready?" He asked as he approached me. I nodded and stood up. He took my hand before walking me to his truck.
