Our future

Brent drove me to the closest drug store to get a pregnancy test. I was so nervous as we walked into the store. Brent walked around the store as I went straight to the counter, looking for the tests.

The lady behind the counter saw me looking around.
"Need help finding something?" She said, making me jump. I looked up at her nervously.
"A pregnancy test" I said quietly. She nodded and walked over to help me look. Once we found one I placed it on the counter and waited for Brent. He came back with candies and some sodas.
"I think we need this too" he said, making me roll my eyes. He paid for everything, making me feel bad again.
"Good luck you two" the lady said as I grabbed our bag. Brent thanked her before grabbing my hand as we walked out.

Brent drove me back to his house as his parents were at work. I tried so hard not to cry during the ride.
"It's going to be okay baby" Brent said as he placed a hand on my thigh. I didn't know what to say. I just wanted to know the results and figure it out from there.

We got the Brent's house and he led me to the bathroom.
"I'll be waiting in the living room" he said before I closed the door. I sat down and took the test. I wanted so badly not to look. I couldn't handle it. I placed the test on the counter and washed my hands before going to get Brent.

"What'd it say?" He asked nervously as I walked into the living room.
"I can't read it. I just can't bring myself to look" I said quietly. Brent gave me a small smile and got up to look himself. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried not to cry while he was gone.

Brent came back and wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my neck, causing me to relax slightly.
"It's negative" he whispered in my ear. I felt so much relief after hearing that. I turned around to face him and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him close. He held me tightly, letting me have this moment to cry tears of joy.

Once I calmed down I pulled away from Brent to face him.
"Now what?" I asked him.
"What do you mean? We don't have to worry about it" he said softly as he ran his hands up and down my sides.
"I know, but I don't want to go through this again. At least not until we're ready" I mumbled.
"We'll continue to be safe then. If it makes you feel better, we can save up money to get you birth control" he suggested. I nodded and he kissed the top of my head.
"Were you really going to stay if I was pregnant?" I asked him.
"Of course. I wasn't going to let you struggle alone, we could figure out parenthood together" he said. I pulled him close again and sighed into his chest. He really was too good for me.

"We should probably get back to school" I mumbled as I took a seat next to Brent on the couch.
"Nah, we can miss one day" he said as he pulled me into his lap. I snuggled into him and smiled. Then I remembered what Barry said yesterday.
"Hey b?" I said. Brent hummed to show he was listening. "Barry asked me something yesterday that got me thinking"
"Oh yeah? What was it?"
"He asked if me and you were serious, or just another high school relationship that meant nothing"
"What'd you say?"
"I told him we were just taking it day by day. But after today, I don't know if that's still true. I mean, you just proved you plan on sticking around for a while"
"Of course, I really care about you, didn't you know?"
"I didn't know how serious you were. It's not that I didn't trust you, I just didn't think of the bigger picture I guess"
"That's okay. I guess I didn't think much about it either until you told me what was wrong this morning"
"The only thing I know is I want to live with you once we're able to get our own place. I don't want to overstay my welcome at Barry's house"
"Sounds good to me"

Brent kept me calm the rest of the afternoon by holding me in my arms and talking with me. We drank the soda and munched on the candy he bought while enjoying each other's company.
"School's gotta be out by now" Brent said. We both checked the time to confirm his thought.
"We should see what the others are up to" I suggested. Brent agreed and gave Eric a call. While he talked with Eric I got up to stretch.
"They're coming here" Brent said as he put his phone down.
"Hey B? Let's not tell them what happened" I said quietly. He agreed it was a good idea.

It was nice out so we hung out on the front steps outside while waiting for the others. Barry arrived first with Eric and Zach right behind.
"Where did you two go?" Eric asked as they approached us.
"J wasn't feeling good" Brent said.
"Are you good now?" Barry asked, giving me a worried look.
"Yeah, Brent took care of me all day" I said as I grabbed Brent's arm.
"So, now what's the plan?" Zach asked.
"It's so nice out, let's head to the park or something" Barry suggested.
"Nah, let's head to the creek. It's more quiet, and we can walk from here" Eric said.
"Sounds like a good idea" I said, with Brent nodding in agreement. We headed down the sidewalk walking together, Eric leading the way.
