*Brent's POV*

I had just dropped Jamie off at her house and was ready to go home myself. On the ride home my phone started ringing. Normally I'd ignore it, but it was Courtney calling. She's kill me if I didn't answer.
"Hello?" I put the phone on speaker before tossing it back down onto the seat.
"Brently! I miss you!" She whined, making me cringe.
"Miss you too" I lied to keep her happy.
"Are you still with your friends?"
"No, I just left"
"Good. Stop by my place then" I sighed, realizing I didn't have much choice.
"See you soon"
"I love you" I hung up as she said that. I don't think I ever said it back to her.

I arrived at Courtney's house and saw her waiting outside.
"Hi baby!" She waves as I pulled into the driveway. I stepped out of the car and did my best to smile as she lead me into the house. I wasn't happy when she grabbed my arm and dragged me up to her room.

Courtney closed the door behind us and instantly wrapped her arms around my neck.
"I missed you" she whispered as he leaned in closer. I gently pushed her back, staring into her eyes.
"I thought we could just hang out tonight. I can't stay too long"
"Don't be like that baby" she said with a smirk. I got scared when I saw the lust in her eyes. I swear she was just keeping me around for the sex now.
"Courtney, I got to go" I pushed her away and ran downstairs.
"Come back here Brent!" She chased after me so I rushed to my car, locking the doors after getting in.

I got away from her house as quickly as possible. Then I realized, that was the first time I stood up to her. Okay, so I ran. But in the past I would've allowed her to do whatever she wanted to me. I shuddered as I thought of it. Maybe Jamie was the push I needed to stand up to her.

I got home pretty late.
"Hey Brent. Have a good night with the boys?" Dad asked as I walked in.
"Yeah, we hung around Barry's fire pit" I didn't dare mention Courtney.
"Sounds fun. Dinner is on the table" I thanked him and walked into the dining room. I sat down and ate my dinner quietly. I was pretty tired at that point and just wanted to sleep.

I said goodnight to mom and dad before heading to bed. I was exhausted, but I couldn't sleep. I realized I had to see Courtney tomorrow at school, and that scared me. Maybe if I stayed close to my friends she wouldn't be too bad. Exhaustion finally took over and I drifted to sleep, forgetting about tomorrow.

My alarm woke me up the next morning. I groaned as I got out of bed. Maybe mom world let me stay home if I pretended to be sick. No, that wouldn't help. Courtney would just stop by after school. I realized I had to be brave and got ready for school.

I ended up getting to school early. Eric and Barry were already there.
"Hey Brent" Barry greeted me as I joined them in our usual spot.
"Hey guys" I leaned against the tree and listened to the two continue their conversation. Zach joined a few minutes later.
"Wow, you beat me here" he laughed as he walked over to me.
"Yeah, got up early"
"Courtney didn't keep you busy this morning?"
"Haven't heard from her" the others looked at me with surprise.
"You mean she didn't call you to wake you up?" Eric asked. I shook my head no. I felt lucky she didn't show up at my house, but I didn't tell them about last night.

Jamie eventually showed up and joined us.
"Nice to see you this morning" she said to me, possibly referring to me spending my morning yesterday with Courtney.
"Nice seeing you too" I said with a smile. We talked the rest of the morning until the bell rang, signaling us to head to class.

Barry and I had our first class together. We sat at the same table in physics, taking notes on everything the teacher said.
"Hey Brent, everything okay between you and Courtney?" Barry whispered as we wrote in our notes.
"I don't know"
"Well, I'm here for you buddy"
"Thanks man" it was nice knowing Barry had my back. I didn't tell him about last night, but I wasn't going to pretend everything was good. They probably all knew already anyway.

The bell rang jus as we finished up our notes. I was not looking forward to this.
"So you gonna talk to her?" Barry asked as we walked down the hall together.
"Guess I have to" I said. There was no avoiding her now. We got to my classroom and I said goodbye to Barry. I sat down at my desk and grabbed my binder. By the time I had everything out that I needed for class, Jamie arrived. She took her seat and turned to face me.
"You know, I was telling Eric about how fun yesterday was" she said, leaning towards me. I was about to respond when Courtney walked in.
"Brent, can we talk in the hall?" She had her arms crossed and was tapping her foot as she stood over my desk.
"I guess we have some time..." she grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the classroom.

"Listen. I forgive you for last night" she said as she grabbed my hands.
"You do?" I was confused, did she think I was in the wrong?
"Yes. So I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk to Jamie. We are still together after all" Ugh, I hated hearing that. In my mind we were never official.
"Fine" I mumbled, not wanting to start a fight. Courtney leaned towards and gave me a small kiss before skipping back into the classroom. I followed, keeping my head down.

I kept my head down as we worked, trying to keep my eyes off Jamie. Courtney was watching me like a hawk, making sure I didn't even think of interacting with her. The stress was getting to me. I couldn't wait to get out of here.

The bell finally rang, so I packed up my things and left with Courtney. She held my hand tightly as I walked her to her friends.
"Okay baby, I'll see you later" she kissed my check before walking into the cafeteria with her friends. I stood there, watching her disappear into the crowd before turning around and walking down the hall. I had to find Jamie.

Jamie started to pass me going down the hall, so I grabbed her arm and pulled her aside into one of the empty classrooms.
"Again Brent? You scared me" she said as I let go.
"Sorry, I had to talk to you" I rubbed the back of my neck as Jamie leaned against the wall.
"What's going on?" She asked me, her eyes showing worry. I reached out and grabbed her hands, gently squeezing them.
"I don't know what to do. I try getting Courtney to leave me alone, and she just comes back like nothing happened"
"What do you mean?" Jamie tilted her head, making me smile slightly.
"Last night she wanted me over, but I was tired so I went straight home" I lied, afraid to share what really happened. "She told me today she forgave me, as if I did something wrong"
"Sounds like you did nothing wrong to me" Jamie said. She removed one of her hands from mine to push some of my hair out of my face. I leaned my head into her hand and sighed. She always made me feel relaxed.

Jamie let me vent to her about Courtney for a while.
"I think I'm finally going to tell her"
"Tell her what?" Jamie asked, gently stroking my cheek with her thumb as I held her hand against my face.
"I'm done with her. I'm done letting her push me around"
"Good for you Brent. Do what you believe is right" I smiled and placed a hand on her hip. Jamie blushed and looked away, so I used my other hand to grab her chin and make her face me. Our eyes locked and I smiled.
"Thank you" I whispered as I leaned in, giving her a gentle kiss. Jamie kisses back, wrapping her arms around my neck. We enjoyed our moment before pulling away, both blushing.

"What the hell!" I turned around to see Courtney and her friends standing by the door. Of course she came to look for me. Well, we were in big trouble now
