Getting Ready

It was a long, uneventful school day. Even Courtney left us alone, probably still scared from Brent's meltdown yesterday. After school Brent and I decided to go shopping for costumes, since Eric's party was tonight. I only agreed to go with Brent after Barry promised to take care of Beau while we were out.

"How's you hand?" I asked during the ride to the party store.
"Still sore, not bad" he mumbled. I nodded and looked over at him. The bruising wasn't as bad today, but I could tell it was going to hurt for a few days. I'm sure he didn't want to talk about it anymore, so I changed the subject.
"So does Eric always have a halloween party?" I asked.
"Not every year, but it's not his first" Brent explained. "We used to do group costumes, but as we got older it was less cool"
"Sounds cute seeing you guys all match" I said, making him blush.

We arrived at the party store and entered holding hands. We were greeted by a large Halloween display.
"Looks like this is the right place" I said. Brent nodded and pulled me down an isle full of costumes.
"Plenty of options" he mumbled as he browsed. He picked up a vampire costume for himself to look at.
"I just need something simple" I said as I looked. I found a witch's hat and tried it on. When I turned around to show Brent, he was gone.

I walked over to the next isle in hopes of hiding him. He suddenly popped up in front of me with a monster mask on. I screamed, making him laugh hard as he pulled the mask off.
"Not funny" I growled as my face turned red.
"I'm sorry J" he said once he caught his breath. I couldn't believe he laughed that hard. I turned away from him and crossed my arms.
"I just wanted to show you what I picked" I whined. I suddenly felt him wrap his arms around my waist and pull me close.
"You look great" he whispered before placing a small kiss on my neck. I relaxed in his arms and cuddled into him. Leave it to Brent to make me forgive him so quickly.

Brent agreed the witch idea was good so we checked out with our costumes and left.
"We still need to get something for Eric" Brent said as we got into his truck.
"Well, how much money do you have left?" I asked. I felt bad as I still had nothing. Hopefully we can find jobs soon.
"Uh, not much" Brent said after checking his wallet.
"Save it. We can make him something" I suggested.
"That's not a bad idea" he said. I used the rest of the ride to think of what we could create for our friend.

We got to Brent's house and went inside. Brent placed our costumes on the table as we didn't have to put them on yet.
"So what did you have planned for E-Bass?" He asked me.
"Does your mom bake?" I asked him, causing him to give me a weird look.
"Sometimes... why?" He asked with a head tilt.
"We have plenty of time, and she might already have the supplies we need. Let's make him cookies" I said with a smile.
"I don't know how to make cookies" he said.
"I do, and you're going to help" I said sweetly. He just sighed and lead me to the kitchen.

Brent pulled out everything I told him we needed. I used his phone to pull up a recipe for us to follow.
"B, can you mix together these ingredients?" I asked him, showing him the list of dry ingredients. He nodded and I let him get to work while I creamed together the sugar and eggs.

Once I had everything ready for the dry ingredients, I looked over to see how Brent was doing. He was done his part, but he was also covered in flour.
"You're shirt is covered in flour B" I said with a laugh. He looked down at himself and started laughing as well as he brushed himself off. He noticed both his hands were also covered in flour, so he walked over and cupped my face in his hands, leaving white marks.
"Now you can have a little" he said before kissing me.

I finished up the dough and let Brent fold in the chocolate chips. Once it was ready we put it in the oven.
"Alright, fun parts over. Time to cleanup" I said, making Brent groan. I cleaned the counters as he cleaned the floor, and we worked together to wash the dishes.
"I think I'm going to take a shower. I feel gross" Brent said. I agreed to wait I'm the kitchen while he cleaned himself up to keep an eye on the oven.

I cleaned the flour off my face as I waited for the cookies to finish. Once the cookies finished baking, I pulled them out of the oven and left the tray on the stove while I looked for a cooling rack.

Brent came out and walked over to the cookies as I searched the kitchen.
"Don't even think about" I said with my back turned to him. I found the cooling rack and placed it on the counter.
"Why not?" He pouted. His hair was dripping wet from the shower and getting his shirt wet.
"They're still hot. Besides, they're for Eric" I said as I moved the cookies onto the rack.
"Gotta make sure they're good enough for him" Brent said with a smirk.
"You can have one when they're cool" I said, making him pout again.

We decided to change into our costumes while waiting for the cookies to cool. He got changed in his bedroom while I used his bathroom. I hated the dress I wore, but I figured it was only for tonight. The long sleeves were uncomfortable, and I was worried about tripping due to the length of the dress. I hated the look, but I had no other options. I placed my witch's hat on and left the bathroom to wait on Brent.

I realized I didn't have to wait on Brent when I found him eating a cookie in the kitchen.
"These are good" he said. I smiled and walked over to him.
"You have something we can put these in?" I asked. Brent walked over to his cabinet and pulled out a ziplock bag.
"Is this good enough?" He asked.
"I suppose" I said. He handed me the bag so I could fill it with the cookies. I'm sure Eric wasn't expecting anything fancy from us anyway.

"Ready to go?" I asked Brent once the cookies were packed away. I looked at him and admired his costume. He had a black button up shirt, a red vest, and black cape. It wasn't too much and it fit him well.
"Yeah, I'm not wearing fake teeth, I'm just going as this" he said. I nodded and smiled.
"You look great" I said quietly.
"So do you" he said, making me blush. He took my hand and we walked out of the house together, ready to see our friends.
