Chapter 24 - Lies

It's been a few hours since Rissa left to hang out with Lexi. Hayden had been at work when I called but his shift was finishing in an hour so we decided that he'd just pick me up on his way home from work.

I'm headed home after hanging out with him for a while and picking up Rissa's car. Hayden also gave me a page that he found in the room Rissa was staying in. I wonder what it is, probably lyrics to a song or something like that. As much as I want to see for myself I think it'll be best if I just wait for Rissa to get back.

I leave the letter and her keys in our room and decide to see what's on TV. It's only around 3, I wonder when Rissa will be getting home. I'm sure she and Lexi must be having a blast, I haven't heard anything from her since she left.

As I'm looking through the channels to see what movies are on I hear a knock on the door. Well that can't be Rissa and Alexis, she wouldn't knock.

I get up heading over to the door and who I see leaves me shocked and confused.

Justin and Lexi.

Lexi is here, smiling and happy with no Rissa in sight. What's going on?

"Hey bro, we thought we'd swing by to hang out for a bit since we had to bail last night," Justin says. "Uh hey guys?" I greet them, my confusion quite evident. I move aside letting them come in and shut the door behind them. "Is everything okay Jase? Where's Rissa?" Lexi asks as we enter the lounge.

If Lexi is here, not knowing where Rissa is, when they went out together earlier, then where the hell is Rissa now? "Rissa is - well I thought she was out with you?" I say but it comes out more as a question. "With me? Why would she be with me? Did she dissappear again?" Lexi says quickly, visibly getting panicked.

"Well you saw her last, did she not show at the Cafe you were waiting at?" I ask trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Did something happen to her? Is she okay? I mean she was acting strange in the morning.

"Dude, what do mean did she not show up? Lexi and I were busy the whole morning. We didn't make any plans with Rissa, did you babe?" Justin turns asking Lexi. "No, I never made plans to hang out today. Why do you think she was hanging out with me? " she asks confused.

Wait, Rissa lied to me?

"She told me. Rissa told me that she, that you told her you wanted to go to the mall. She was messenging you earlier before she left or at least that's what she told me," I say softly. Why did she lie to me? I guess that's why she was acting so strange in the morning. That's what she was hiding. But why?

Lexi's eyes go wide as she realizes that she must've been used as Rissa's 'cover' for whatever she's actually doing.  "Oh wait! Yes now I remember she-Um, well you see-" she tries to come up with an excuse but it's clear to see that she has no clue where Rissa is or what she's doing.

"Save it Alexis. I know she lied to me. Don't try to cover for her," I say frustrated. I run my hand through my hair in frustration, what is going on?

Why would she lie to me? Where is she? This is why she didn't want me to drop her off. She was messenging someone this morning, if it wasn't Lexi than who was it? Who is she with?

Justin stands up and places a hand on my shoulder, "Jason, don't worry I'm sure she has a good explanation for all of this. Everything was good between you'll right?" he asks and after seeing my nod in reply he continues, "so you know she didn't pull the dissappearing act again. Was she acting strange?"

I tell them about how she behaved weirdly this morning and after a while of us talking they leave, but not before making me promise to let them know when she gets back.

It's about an hour after they leave and I'm running through every possible situation in my head trying to figure out what she could be doing that caused her to lie to me about it. We finally sorted everything out. We were okay and now she's lying about where she going?

At around 4:30, I'm in our room when I hear the door unlock from the outside. She's back.

I hear her footsteps getting closer. "Babe, I'm home,"I hear her shout. I don't reply." Jase? " she says a few seconds later. Her footsteps getting loud and louder until finally she enters the room.

"Oh there you are, why didn't you answer?" she asks taking of her shoes and leaving her stuff on the table, coming over to join me on the bed. I shrug in reply. "So how was it? You were gone for quite a while, " I ask hoping she tells me herself.

"Well uh you know how Lexi is. Dragging me from shop to shop," she says forcing out an awkward laugh. "Huh," I say, "that's funny considering both Justin and Lexi came over here looking for you to hang out. So was Lexi dragging you from store to store before or after I figured out you lied to me?" I say sarcastically.

She looks at me shocked. "Jase I -" she tries to say before trailing off. "What you didn't expect me to find out?" I say angrily. Why would she lie? What is she hiding from me?!

She takes a deep breath, "Jason, I can explain."
