Chapter 23 - You're Hiding Something

Jase's Pov

Why is the room so bright, I think to myself as I wake up and look around our room. I hear the shower on and I reach over to grab my phone. It's already 10 am. It feels like it's been ages since I sleep in like this. I wonder what time Rissa got up.

A few minutes later after hearing the shower go off, my princess makes her way back into our room. She's in her robe drying her hair with her towel. She hasn't looked up yet, so she doesn't know that I'm awake. It's only when she reaches her dressing table and grabs her phone does she finally look up and catches me staring at her.

"Jase!" she says surprised, "I didn't know you were up yet! Why didn't you say anything?" she says laughing. "Morning babe, you were just so focused on your task and looking oh so delectable that I didn't want to disturb you just yet," I say, my voice still a little gruff from having just woken up a few minutes ago.

She walks over to me, after plugging in her hairdryer and setting her towel," Well good morning to you too. Have you been up long?" she leans down pecking my cheek.

"Hey! Where's my proper good morning kiss?" I say playfully. "Why don't you come and get it then," she says flirtatiously, checking her phone again. I roll my eyes playfully, although I can't help but notice the slight frown that crosses her face for a split second as her phone lights up with another notification. "Everything okay?" I ask her concerned as I sit up and move to get out of bed.

"Yeah, everything's okay. Why wouldn't it be?" she replies quickly. Too quickly. Is she hiding something, I think to myself. I motion towards her phone. "Oh that, no everything is okay. It's just uh Lexi. Yeah, Lexi, she wants to go out to the mall or something in a little bit. You don't mind right?" she says hesitantly.

What's going on with her? She's acting strange. "No, of course I don't mind you hanging out with Lexi. I have no doubt she wants to spend some quality time with you. Just, you're sure you're okay? You know you can talk to me, right?"

She smiles at me before turning around to face the mirror but even in just those few seconds, I could see that it was not her usual happy smile. "Yes, Jase I know. Thank you. I'm going to get ready then, she wants to meet at around 11:30," she says skillfully avoiding my question. She's definitely not telling me something, but if she doesn't want to talk about it, I'm not going to push her. Not yet anyway.

I walk over to where she's sitting in front of the mirror, brushing her hair and lean down resting my hand on a shoulder before leaving a light kiss in her forehead, "Okay, I'll leave you to get ready, beautiful. I'm going to head into the bathroom. I love you, and don't you forget it okay?" I joke at the end.

She looks up at me lovingly. "I love you too, Jase," she says grabbing my hand as I pull it away from her and she kisses my palm. "Now go already or else you'll make me late!"

About an hour later after having a shower and doing all the morning necessities. I'm in the kitchen making my morning coffee when my gorgeous girlfriend walks into the room, placing her small black bag on the island.

She is so beautiful and amazing, I think to myself as I see her checking her phone once again, sending a quick text to someone, before switching her phone off. It's probably Lexi. It's already 11:30, I know she's going to leave soon. Wait, she said that Lexi was meeting her there, but how would she do that without -

"Hey Ris? Lexi is coming to pick you up right?" I ask, trying to figure out how this small little detail has slipped both our minds these past 2 days. She looks at me confused, "No, I'm meeting hi-her there. Why would she pick me up when I can drive there myself with my - oh shit! My car! It's still at Hayden's place!" she says slamming her hand on the counter as she realizes what I'm hinting at. She looks so worried when she really shouldn't be. It was just a small mistake.

"I could just drop you off?" I offer and even though she tries to hide it I see her eyes widen at the thought. Okay, maybe this meeting with Lexi has something to do with why she was acting so strange earlier.

I don't know what's going on with her but I trust her. Whatever she's hiding, she probably has a good reason for it. I sigh, walking up to her and taking her hands in mine. She tries to look away, her eyes settling on everything and anything possible that's not me. "Rissa, look at me please,"I ask her softly and I see her beautiful eyes finally stare into mine."Ris, I know that you're hiding something. I don't know what and as I told you before I hope you know that you can tell me anything. I'm not going to push you, when you're ready I'm here to listen," I tell her softly but firmly. She needs to know that I've got her back. She can trust me. I hope she still trusts me.

" Jason, I-" she starts before trailing off. I can see the silent battle in her eyes, as if she doesn't know what to do until she looks down quickly before hugging me and saying, "I love you."

I hug her back even though it's clear to me that that's not what she was originally going to say. "You can take my car to go meet Lexi. I'll give Hayden a call and see if I can sort out getting your car back with him while you're gone. Or we could just both go pick it up later? Alright?" I think aloud, going back to making my coffee and something for Rissa to drink. She nods in reply, checking her phone once again when she gets another message.

"Thats uh Lexi, she's waiting for me at the coffee shop, " she says grabbing her things again. The coffee shop?  "I thought you'll were supposed to meet at the mall?" I ask, handing her my keys. "Yeah, well you know Lexi always changing the plans last minute. She probably wanted to grab something to drink before we start shopping. I'll see you later then?" she says giving me another hug.

"Yeah, I'll see you later. Please stay safe! I love you," I say pulling out of the hug slightly and kissing her as she whispers back that she loves me too.

I watch her walk out of the room and the front door close. I turn back to the counter and see the 2 cups of coffee made, more for me I guess, I think to myself.

I graby phone dialing Hayden, I'm not sure if his working today. "Hello?" I hear him say through the phone. "Hey man, I was wondering..."
