Rissa's Pov
I make my way back to the lounge, coffee in hand. I place it down on the table and settle back down on the sofa and listen to the current story that AJ is telling Jase. "You would not believe how many outrageous props she wanted for the video, dude. I mean a few things I'd get, but a camel! I mean why she wanted a camel for a video that's set in space is beyond me!" I'm at a loss for words while Jase is laughing hysterically.
Once he calms down he yawns, or I should say fake yawns, and places his arm around me. I shake my head and let out a laugh. I would have thought that we have moved past that stage now after being together all these years. Nevertheless I lean closer into him and let him pull me against him. I join in their conversation, simply getting to know AJ and his and Jase's bond. Soon the pizza arrives and we continue talking just moving our conversation from one topic to the next while eating. "So AJ, what brings you to this corner of the world?" I ask him curiously. "Well, I actually came here for you,"he says with a straight face. Say what now?! The shock is probably evident on my face as he laughs and continues,"I'm joking. Well, kind of."
"You better be mate," Jase says jokingly but I recognize the seriousness behind the simple joke. Trust Jase to get jealous at a time like this. "But seriously Rissa, I've been going around scouting for new talent and when Jason sent me the video of you singing your song, I knew I had to come see check for myself," he continues seriously. Wait, what video? I turn to Jase in question but before I get the chance to ask he answers, reading my mind as usual."He's talking about the one I recorded when you sang 'Never Apart'. The one I showed Justin and Lexi the other day."
Ok, that explains that, but what does AJ mean when he says he had to come check it out? "Ok, but what does that have to do with you coming here?" I question. "I'll explain it all later, I promise, but right now I have one request," he says. I simply nod in reply. "Sing a song for me. Whichever one you feel like singing,"he continues. I wasn't expecting that. I turn to Jase and he is smiling about something. He's hiding something from me.
"Hmm, how's Stone Cold by Demi Lovato?" I check. I really love that song! AJ nods while Jase smiles and gives my hand a squeeze. I close my eyes, thinking of the lyrics and start, "Stone cold, stone cold. You see me standing but I'm dying on the floor. Stone cold, stone cold. Maybe if I don't cry, I won't feel anymore. Stone cold, baby. God knows I try to feel..."
The lyrics take over and it no longer feels as if I simply singing in my lounge, but as if I'm performing at a concert. If only that could happen. "...Oh! I'm happy for you. Know that I am. Even if I can't understand. If happy is, if happy is her! I happy for you."
I'm brought back to reality by clapping and as I look up to see who it is. I see not just Jason as I was expecting but AJ too. I still can't believe it! AJ, owner of AJ Records is right here giving me a standing ovation! I let out a nervous giggle and finish the last bit of my coffee.
"Rissa, that was incredible! Believe me, I work with artists everyday and I haven't seen that much talent and control in years!" AJ exclaims. Jase reaches over and kisses my cheek. "My superstar," he whispers. I thank them shyly and get up to go to the kitchen. "I'll be right back, guys. I'm just going to go get some water," I say as I grab the dishes from the table. I can't believe that just happened!
As I make my way back I hear the two of them talking in hushed voices. "So Drew, you're really going to do it, right?" whispers Jase. "I told you on the phone that if she sings like that then I'll have to. You were right dude, she is amazing!" AJ answers. I blush at the words. I can't believe it, but I wonder what they're talking about. What is AJ going to do?
I enter the room and they go silent. Obviously not wanting me to know what they were discussing. I see AJ sit up straight and he turns to me with a serious but happy look on his face. "Rissa, I have a proposition for you," he says. I nod and motion for him to go on. "You are very talented singer. As you know I've been searching for new artists and I'll be an idiot if I don't see what's right in front of me. So, Rissa Singh, how would you like to sign with AJ Records?"
