S2 EPISODE 7: BRIGHT SIDE

Rusty is sitting on Rebecca's bed, staring at a piece of plastic in his hands. She is kneeling on the floor in front of him with a big smile. They can both hear his heart beating.

Rusty: What is this?

Rebecca: Oh my God, you know what that is.

Rusty: Does this mean you have a fever or something?

Rebecca: Rusty, It means we're having a baby.

Rusty: Who's having a baby? I'm not having a baby.

Rebecca: Ugh. I beg to differ.

Rusty: You haven't been fucking other people?

Rebecca gets angry.

Rebecca: No. Have you?

Rusty: ...No.

Rebecca: Are you really not excited about this?

Rusty: Excited? Why would I be excited? Look at what you're accusing me of.

Rebecca: Accusing you? Seriously?

Rusty: Hold on a second. I'm just surprised. I need a second to let this all sink in.

She gently rubs her finger between Rusty's.

Rebecca: Rusty. It's yours. It's ours.

Rusty is silent for a minute or so. He stands up and paces the room.

Rusty: What about James? You guys are always hanging out. You're like conjoined twins.

Rebecca: We've never had sex.

Rusty: Really?

Rebecca: Never.

Rusty: You know that kid is in love with you, right?

Rebecca: We're just friends.

Rusty: Well that's just fucked up. You spend all this time with him, knowing how he feels, but you never give him any? Just stringing him along? That's like teasing your dog by putting a treat in your pocket and then pushing him away every time he tries to get it. He does all these tricks and sits there like a good boy, and he gets nothing. It's cruel.

Rebecca: Every girl has a guy friend like that.

Rusty: I've noticed.

Rebecca: We have an understanding.

Rusty: Believe me, he doesn't understand that understanding.

Rebecca: Well he's weird. He just shows up at my house all the time. It's like he's trying to catch me with someone.

Rusty: Was that the blue Toyota in the driveway the other night?

Rebecca: Yeah, he's crazy.

Rusty: He's crazy in love with you. That's a good thing.

Rebecca: It doesn't matter anymore. I'm a mother.

Rusty: Ew. Don't say that.

Rebecca: Shut up.

Rusty: You know, I bet James would take care of the kid, even though it's not his kid. He'd be a great step-daddy. He loves you enough to do that.

Rebecca: You're saying you're not gonna take care of the kid?

Rusty: Of course I'll take care of it if it's my kid. I'm just saying if it ends up not being mine.
