Pt 4 of the Soulmate mini series!

Once you turn 18, you and your soulmate will share physical pain.

Today was a big day, one I wasn't really sure how to feel about. My eighteenth birthday is obviously huge. I'm an adult now, but with that comes an unpleasant downside. Sure, I'm excited to meet my soulmate, but I just wish it didn't have to be like this.

I don't handle pain very well, and the fact that after your eighteenth, you and your soulmate feel the same pain is really terrifying for me.

Jumping out of bed, I walked into the attached bathroom to quickly get ready for school. Only a few more months until it was over, and off to uni I go. I brushed my teeth, combed and straightened my hair, and put on some light mascara.

Walking out, I went over to my closet to pull out some clothes. It was a nice, warm spring day, so I decided on a cute pink skirt and a loose, flowing long-sleeved white top. I threw on my air force ones, put on a matching pink headband, and grabbed my bookbag, ready to leave.

Stepping out of my room, I turned the corner to go downstairs. In the kitchen, my parents sat each with a cup of coffee. My dad was reading the paper, (even though mom and I have tried to get him to stop ordering it), and mom scrolled through her phone.

"Good morning! I'm heading out for school soon, and I've got to go a little earlier than usual to pick up Terra since her car's broken down." I smile as I kiss them both on the cheek.

My dad folds up his paper and beams up at me, "That's fine, kiddo. Just wanted to wish you a happy birthday, first." He stood and pulled me into a tight hug. "My little girl's already eighteen. Man, how the time flies."

I nodded, "Yeah, pretty scary if I'm being honest."

I moved on to my mom who also gave me a hug. She chuckled, "Sweetie, don't fret too much. It's not like people get hurt all the time. Your father and I have barely ever gotten hurt in our entire time being together. The only reason we really found each other was-"

"When you broke your arm and found him in the waiting room of the hospital. I know, mom, I'm just being paranoid." I brushed it off. I smiled as I backed away from the two of them, closer to the front door. "See you after school!"

I got in my car, and headed out to pick up Terra. She was on the way to school, thankfully, and only a ten minute drive from my house. Once I got to her house, she skipped down her front steps also in a skirt, but a denim one with a black shirt that had sunflowers on it. Her brown hair was lightly curled and blowing in the soft breeze.

Jumping in, she wasted no time by pulling me into a hug. "Happy birthday, (Y/N)! You're one step closer to finding your soulmate, this is so exciting!"

Terra has been eighteen for three months now, and had no injuries from her, or her soulmate. It comforted me a little knowing that it wouldn't be immediately I'd be feeling their pain.

I giggled, "Thanks Terra. I'm a little nervous, but I know it'll be fine. Cute outfit by the way."

She lightly pushed my shoulder as I pulled out of her driveway and onto the street. "Girl, you look gorgeous, but thank you. I really love your headband! It looks great with the outfit."

I smiled, "Thanks, I thought it would be a nice touch."

She nodded and started digging in her bookbag. "I got you a gift. You're going to absolutely love it."

I grinned, starting to pull into the school parking lot. Once I was parked, I unbuckled and turned in my seat. "Thank you! You didn't have to but that's so sweet."
