A short Gavin dabble

tw: some mention of injury

-
Gavin didn't depend on others.

It was a bad habit, he knew that full well. But old habits aren't the simplest to break.

After an excruciatingly long mission all he wanted to do was go home. So, it was exactly what he did. He said his simple goodbyes, and started his long walk home.

What he hadn't noticed before was the growing pain at his side. A dull ache that grew with each heavy step. At one point, he stopped walking only a few feet away from his apartment building. Leaning against a wall of a closed shop, he unzips his jacket.

A cut through his dark blue shirt slowly stains more and more with blood.

He sighs, mostly of annoyance, and quickened his pace towards his apartment.

He didn't bother turning the lights on. Gavin had been living in this apartment for as long as he could remember, and knew the layout like the back of his hand. Shutting the front door behind him, he walks towards the kitchen to his right and turns on the sink as he looks under the cabinet below.

'Hello?' he hears a tired voice coming from the small living room behind him. He freezes, recognizing the voice immediately. 'Gavin?'

'MC.' He keeps his back turned, hearing her groan as she gets up from the couch. He had forgotten that before his mission 2 weeks ago, he had given her a key to his apartment. 'For emergencies' he recalls her saying.

'What are you doing in the dark?' He hears her soft footsteps as she crosses the room.

'It's nothing. Go back to sleep.'

A click, and the lights turn on. He could finally see the bandages below the sink and take it and he gets to his feet. MC is standing over his shoulder, watching his careful movements as he moves to the table in the center of the kitchen.

'Bandages?' She recognizes immediately. 'Gavin, are you hurt?'

'It's nothing serious.' He assures her, removing his jacket and his shirt. MC pulls up a chair beside him and gasps.

'Gavin! What happened?'

'I don't really remember...'

'Let me help you!' She takes the bandages from his hand. Gavin didn't object, too worn out to protest further. MC moves faster than he could have, rushing to quickly clean and bandage his wound.

'You weren't going to hide this from me, were you?' As she cleaned the cut, she noticed the other scars and faded cuts that covered his arms and chest.

'...maybe. My job comes with injuries, I've grown a tolerance to them, don't worry.'

'I will worry! I care about you too much to see you hurt.' She says. Gavin is surprised, but smiles softly as he moves a stray hair behind her ear.

'Thank you.'

Her face quickly flushed bright pink. 'My pleasure.'

'How long have you been here?' He asks, later. The two were now on the couch, MC laid across the couch as Gavin sits upright, her head resting in his lap. She shut her eyes, her breathing calm as the two sat in comfortable silence.

'Only for a little while.' She replies with her eyes still shut. 'I was waiting for you.'

'If you were coming here, maybe it would be easier if all your things were here, too. So, you're not wasting time.'

'I had my laptop, it's fine.'

'No, MC.'

He smiles, even if she couldn't see him.

'We should move in together.'

'What?' She sits up, and turns towards him. 'Us? Move in together?'

'Maybe not here. But, in an apartment somewhere else. I was thinking closer in loveland. So..?'

Her answer was clear, her lips kissing his. Gavin pulls her closer, kissing her back.

'I would love to live with you.'
