I knew what his words meant but I wanted to hear him say it, those beautiful words that I hadn't heard directed at me meaningfully for over seven hundred years. "Maddox, please what do you mean?" I pleaded , with all of my built up emotions showing fully .
He didn't speak though, he didn't say a word , I had closed my eyes in defeat, thinking that perhaps he was talking about someone else being in love with me, that he didn't actually feel what I thought that he felt, Suddenly I felt two lips upon mine, my brain froze and then felt as though it had been shocked with electricity. After a moment of hesitation and realization I started to kiss back . Our inexperience was evident though it felt, natural, like we were supposed to do this. Life was supposed to be this way.
Once we needed to breathe we pulled away, almost simultaneously. We were breathing heavily yet staring into each others eyes "I love you." Maddox whispered, almost as though he would ruin everything if he spoke to loud. Like the volume of his voice would break me into pieces. I almost didn't hear it if i'm honest but I was being so mindful of this moment. This moment that I will treasure for as long as I would live.
"I love you too Maddox Miller." I felt a slight pain on my palm which drew my attention. I placed my hand palm-side up and watched in amazement as the black ink on my hand went from black, to purple and then to blue. I was confused . I knew that this had something to do with the curse but it had never changed before. I ignored it as it couldn't be a bad sign right?
I smiled lovingly at maddox and we were silent before we heard a slow clapping sound. I looked up to see the woman herself. I could throw whatever pride I had of my mindfulness out of the window as i didn't hear her approach but now I could smell her signature and annoying scent. I didn't have any supernatural smelling ability , it was just way too strong for a human to enjoy.
I leaped up in front of maddox who was still sitting on the swing rather confused. "Alviva, may you please announce to me why you are in my garden?" she pouted and crossed her arms "What? I was enjoying the show of love! it's something I very rarely get to see." I almost rolled my eyes at her obliviousness, perhaps if she spent a bit more time with her daughter then she would be able to experience a different kind of love.
"Um? e-excuse m-me but who are you? please?" Maddox asked shyly, I amended his bravery in my head for speaking up but if i'm honest I wish that he hadn't as this brought Alviva's attention to him. A glimmer of sympathy flashed in her eyes before She almost squealed, very uncharacteristic from my experience but she always had a motive and a reason for doing things .
"You must be Maddox! My name is Alviva I'm sure that you have heard a lot about me." as she spoke her name I saw Maddox pale and start to quiver a bit, he placed one of his hands in his pockets , presumably playing with a crystal that he kept there. Alviva took notice of this and tried to sound reassuring as she said "Now , now Don't worry I won't touch a pretty little scarlet hair on your adorable little head, I just came to congratulate you, no one has ever gotten Chester this far to breaking his curse."
Maddox seemed a bit relieved yet sad at this news, he was relieved that he wasn't going to get hurt by the witch but I don't understand where the sadness came from . "Anyways..." Alviva said as she walked in a circle before turning to face us again, you know as you do for no apparent reason. "I was just here to witness the kiss and the 'i love you'. I knew it would happen but i always want to make sure that it is genuine. It's sad that this relationship is doomed to end badly, I have a secret weapon that neither of you will suspect! cheerio!" and then she disappeared and I was able to breathe happily again.
I turned to maddox and tried to look reassuring and to make a smile appear on his face "Isn't she charming?" which succeeded to put a slight smile on his face, though he still looked worried. I sighed before pushing a piece of hair away from his face before leaning down and placing a small kiss on his lips "Don't worry about her Maddox, I've dealt with it for seven hundred years , I can handle a little more. "
The sadness seemed to deepen before an unfamiliar emotion seemed to flash in his eyes as he held my hand "You don't need to deal with her on your own, I'm here now , I don't think anything could drive me away from you." His determination made my heart swell, I knew what this curse could do and I didn't want it to touch Maddox any more then it already has. I decided to change the subject to a happier one .
As Maddox was still holding onto my hand I easily pulled him off the swing, he almost stumbled off but I steadied him , whilst still holding his hand I lead him into the kitchen Where I sat him down on the stool . "would you like something to eat?" My question did seem to take his mind off things as he hummed and looked around in amusement. He had told me when he first visited that my Kitchen was the biggest one that he had ever seen , I didn't think much of it at the time but watching him closely inspecting every shelf and cabinet that he could see made me realize how true it was. My kitchen wasn't of the stereotypical british kitchens as it was rather large and was connected to a dining room.
When I say the typical British kitchen I am mainly referring to the type that is in Maddox's own home, his kitchen is rather small, I wasn't too sure if it was like that in all council housing or not but I let him take a little wonder around the kitchen when he first saw it, looking inside each drawer and cupboard. "I would please if you don't mind of course, You've seen what a normal evening is like for me, it would be nice to have a glimpse into your normality." His response made me send in a very large grin. After all that I had told him today and all that he has experienced, he still wanted to get to know me for me.
That's what we did for the evening, We ate and watched childrens television programmes. Maddox seemed more interested in it then I thought that he would be , he liked to quote the characters and laugh at all the children's jokes. He had told me that he sometimes felt rather childish watching these sorts of programmes but the fact that a seven hundred year old watched them made him feel better.
that night I didn't take the chances of walking him home, I drove the two of us to his house and I walked him to his front door. We stopped at the step as he turned to me . "Thank you Chester, I had a wonderful evening." he told me softly , attempting to make little noise . "I had a fantastic evening as well Maddox, thank you for creating that." My words seemed to make him blush, instead of saying anything he leaned in and our lips met once again. This time I was expecting it and was able to lean into the kiss happily. It seemed like the very stereotypical kissing on the doorstep was actually stereotypical for a reason. It was a magical way to say goodnight.
