Chester Allerton closed his book and placed the pen that he was using back inside his blazer pocket. Maddox Allerton sat beside him on the bench. They were out for a quiet day at the river. Maddox loved to come here when the air was cool so that he could listen to the water moving and embrace the peaceful surroundings. It had been around a year since the doctors had told him that he was now classed as totally blind. Though Maddox didn't mind too much, he knew it was coming from the moment he was classed as blind in the first place so he had accepted it a long time ago. On the other hand Chester had an unusual sense of guilt within him.
Chester often wondered what Maddox's life would have been like if they had never met. Perhaps he wouldn't be blind, perhaps he would live a long and happy life , get married and not have to worry about witches and ice elementals. Chester also wondered what would have happened all those years ago, if he had accepted Alviva's feelings and gotten into a relationship with her...though the times where he wondered that he is often filled with distaste and needs a hug off Maddox, or Sage.
"Father, Dad!" shouted a small voice as Maddox and Chester turned around to the sound of quick footsteps "Look what I can do!" Sage's red curls bounced as she stopped in front of them, her wide and excited grin made her entire face glow. Sage had reached over to the lake with one hand and closed her ice blue eyes. Where she was pointing started to move and the water rippled. A thing transparent tentacle started to grow from the water itself. Chester was narrating everything to Maddox as he has grown accustomed to doing over the years that they had been together.
Though the game of show and tell was quickly interrupted as they heard another voice, a very high pitched one "Sage! why did you run off so quick?!" Another girl with long blonde hair and green eyes approached. She was about one year older then Sage but they were the best of friends, they grew up together. Analise grabbed onto Sage's other hand quickly as she reached them. "Hello Chester and Maddox! Mam and dad are on their way, i think that they had some plans to discuss with you! now come on Sage lets leave the old people to talk!" Ana slowly dragged a flustered Sage away.
Chester and Maddox clapped for their daughter's magic abilities and chuckled at her friends antics. "I totally ship them." Maddox chuckled whilst resting his head on Chester's shoulder. He could feel the vibration when Chester chuckled and could imagine a small smile plastered on his face. Chester wrapped an arm around Maddox's own shoulder and pulled them closer. This action caused The red 'M' on his palm to be hidden once again.
"Of course you do, you're such a matchmaker...I don't think that they'll ever get sick of each other. I would hate to see the fights that they would get into though..." Chester muttered , thinking back to all the fights that the two girls have gotten into since they adopted Sage. There haven't been a lot of fights and most of it was over nothing but having two witches with uncontrolled emotions fighting does not result in much happiness. Rather it ends up with houses being trashed, sometimes set on fire, most likely flooded and just overall chaos.
They had a few more minutes of peace and silence, well almost silence they could hear Ana and Sage playing a little further down the river. "Hello Alaric and Amity!" Maddox happily grinned as he felt some people approaching them. This caused their two forms to sag a little bit as they sat on the floor in front of them. Amity and Alaric hadn't changed a day. Well that is a lie, they had aged , but they were just using the magic that was stills surrounding them to stay young.
Chester and Maddox had this opportunity as well but Chester was really tired, he just wanted to grow old and live a happy life , with the love of his life by his side. Maddox had agreed to this , even though he could have a prolonged life it wouldn't' stop his eyesight from deteriorating . Rules of nature are set in stone , you can prolong the inevitable but that doesn't stop it from being inevitable.
" Hello you two! How are you both doing? Ana has been keeping us updated. you're looking well!" Amity laughed kindly, It had been a few months since Chester and Maddox had actually seen Amity and Alaric as the two supernatural creatures had been on a business trip. When referring to 'business' what they really mean is that they were doing some spells somewhere, or breaking some spells. The job of the witch and elemental was to restore the balance to nature. Alaric wasn't always the most useful when it comes to breaking spells, unless it was fire, but he came in handy if there was some rude people or someone tried to get violent.
Chester moved his arm from around Maddox's shoulders and held his hand out to the two "We are doing rather well thank you, a few hospital appointments but all is steady. What about the two of you?" Though Amity disregarded his hand and pulled him in for a hug . Alaric also offered Maddox a hug. They had learnt that Maddox was very much a hug person.
"Chester you are such an old man! gimme a hug!" Amity stood up and wrapped her arms around Chester, Chester had noted that she smelt of honey and chocolate. It was a rather pleasant and welcoming scent. It was like walking into a small cottage in winter to find out that your room mate , whether it be a partner or parent or someone else, had been baking and there was a nice warm cake waiting for you to pour custard all over it and fill you with warmth. "We're doing pretty well too. The last job wasn't the easiest but we got through it!"
Alaric chuckled before nodding his head "you can say that again. Emily handled everythign so well and of course Dave was at home. Honestly i never thought I'd be bitten by a rabid sponge." Which caused everyone who heard to laugh. Even when everyone else had calmed down Maddox was still chuckling away . A laugh coming out every second as he reached under his glasses to wipe his eyes. "How is the book store getting on?" Alaric asked politely whilst playing with some grass between his fingers.
"Oh it's fantastic! I'm still as in love with it now as i was then!" Maddox gushed, when Jessica and Thomas passed away , they had kindly placed Chester and Maddox in their will. After all they had became very close friends and the elderly couple were very unsure about where their lovely little plane of heaven would go , they didn't have any family that were willing to take it on and so Chester and Maddox seemed to be the perfect option.
"Just like my love for you." Chester never missed an opportunity to be cheesy , especially if Alaric and Amity were there. Maddox and Chester shared a quick kiss. What used to cause disgusted looks from both Alaric and Amity now caused them to awe . The relationship between the two men had blossomed over the years, they just radiate an immense feeling of love and happiness. The comment Made Amity and Alaric move even closer together.
"Actually there is something that we wanted to tell you." Amity started before shouting the little girls over . Sage ran and sat between her fathers whilst Ana calmly walked and sat in Alaric's lap. Amity pulled a piece of paper out of her picket and handed it to Maddox, touching it to his hand so that he knew to get a hold of it. "We have some very important news." Amity trailed off and shared excited glances with Alaric.
Maddox's hands trailed over the braille that was on the card, he had to go over it around three times before a grin etched it's way onto his face and he gave a small squeal before opening his arms once again for a hug. "Congratulations!" He shouted as he gave Amity a tight hug- though a careful one as she chuckled and rubbed his back. It didn't take Chester long to realize what was happening before he jumped up and joined the hug.
Alaric, Ana and Sage also joined in the big hug. Their family was growing and so was their friendship . Everything was becoming the perfect life that Chester had wanted for all those years. Chester had a family, he had a business, he had friends and he had his true love. A true love that will stay with him until eternity ends.
The end!
