chapter 25

It was rather busy with a lot of people bustling about, I felt utterly useless not being able to do more to help. I spent the majority of my time on my knees next to Maddox, we were told not to move him in case he hit his head too hard. I held his hand in mine to try and offer him any comfort that I could. I was aware that Alaric was beside me , looking over Maddox with concerned eyes. Someone had called an ambulance about thirty seconds after I had arrived on the ice . We were told that they were on their way .

It wasn't too long before I heard sirens coming closer and closer, Soon enough there were people in green jackets at my side , trying to grasp what happened . I had convinced them to let me ride in the ambulance with them to the hospital. When they moved Maddox's head I was almost on the floor and fainting myself. On the back of that lovely bobble hat was a large patch of red. I was almost relieved that he was passed out, if he wasn't and he saw that then he would have passed out anyway .

Whilst I was next to Maddox on the ice rink, Alaric had went to get our things, which I was carrying. Maddox had showed me the password into his phone, just in case , which I was grateful for as I phoned his mother. Savannah was understandably distraught and she told me that she would get to the hospital as soon as she could.

In between talking to the paramedics , phoning savannah and keeping an eye on Maddox I was riddled with guilt and panic. I knew that he would be okay, he had only hit his head it seemed. Maddox's breathing was normal and as was everything else other then the blood from his head and the unconsciousness. The paramedics had tried to reassure me that it was only a concussion. I was a bit frustrated of their use of the word only, he shouldn't be injured at all and he wouldn't have been if I had stayed with him.

The ice rin was quite far from the hospital, but when I felt pressure on my hand My eyes immediately went to Maddox's face where I saw his eyes twitching. "Maddox?" I asked him carefully and gently so that I didn't scare him. His chest rose and fell rapidly , he was very panicked . I struggled to keep my balance as I stood up and tried to make him focus on my .

"Maddox, shh it's all okay, it's Chester you are fine, you just took a small fall and we're going to get you checked out alright? don't worry I'll be here, I called your mother and she knows and she will meet us there, everything would be okay. " He offered me another small yet wavering smile, he was trying his best not to panic. I reached into his bag and pulled out one of his crystals in hopes of comforting him. I put a dark green stone into his hand and it seemed to make him chuckle. I took that as a good sign .

The paramedics were talking to us about what was going to happen when we got to the hospital. It didn't seem like Maddox had to be rushed in there now that he had regained consciousness, I was told that I could stay with him until hi s mother arrived. That might have been with Maddox's refusal to let go of my hand , even when we were exiting the ambulance.

Maddox still hadn't said anything which was very concerning to me and he seemed to shiver quite a bit, or tremble . I would understand both now that he wasn't moving and he wasn't wearing the thickest of materials and he did just hit his head. I still wasn't entirely sure if he fell or was pushed or fainted ....I don't know what Amity did to him but she seemed pretty darn pleased with herself .

I had a small plan forming in the back of my mind, from what I know Alviva didn't know that Amity was doing this to Maddox or getting further involved , I knew that the only way to get Amity to stop doing this was to get Alviva's attention off me , I knew of several ways that I could do that but I would need to consult with Alaric first.

I sat with Maddox as he was looked over and when his mother came in to see if he was alright. She had some tear streaks down her face , apparently one of Maddox's cousins was a nurse in the hospital and it was nearly time for her shift therefore Savannah got a ride off them.

When Savannah arrived I had left the room to wait. When I got into the waiting room I saw Alaric sat with his head in his hands. I stood in front of him and cleared my throat. He looked up surprised and jumped to his feet, nearly knocking into me at the same time due to how enthusiastically he rose. "Chester, is Maddox okay? I don't know what happened , I mean I knew that she was planning to do something but I thought that you wouldn't leave his side why did you leave his side that was utterly and incredibly stupid of you to leave his side, could you imagine what could have happened to him if we were a little bit slower?"

I almost felt like putting a finger to his lips and shushing him. I looked around at the annoyed stares we were getting so instead I just placed my entire hand over his mouth in hopes to shut him up. "Alaric calm down, Maddox seems to be alright , he hasn't said anything to me about what happened but he has a small concussion from where his head hit the ice." He seemed to calm down a little bit before looking behind me . Savannah was coming out of the room and was heading our way.

"Chester thank you for coming here with him, he would have been scared out of his mind, it must have been a big fall. He is going to stay here overnight whilst the doctors watch over him but he should be able to come home tomorrow. He wanted to say goodbye but he's hooked up to a heart monitor. They want to watch his condition because you never know how he will react to things, he is an overthinker you know?"

I nodded understandably and gave her a slight smile "Please keep me informed if anything happens? I feel rather bad, I turned my back for a moment when he was holding onto the bar and talking to a friend, and then " she placed her hands on my shoulders with a slight smile of her own "It's alright chester, he is okay . You have done nothing wrong, now I better get back to him and make sure that he is okay. I will try to get him his laptop so he could message you himself, have a goodnight" By the time she had finished her sentence she was already around the corner.

I breathed a sigh of relief before turning to Alaric, most of my happiness drained from my face as I looked him dead in the eye. "We need to talk, this has gone too far."
