Maya's pov

I stood in the empty infirmary feeling how empty it was. Denise was dead and the next person in charge was some how me. It made me uneasy to think about. When we went to the Hilltop, a grown man was their doctor and it made Maggie and Glenn feel safe. I could only imagine if someone like them came to Alexandria for medical attention and saw a sixteen-year-old.

I ran my fingers through my hair going over to the shelves of medical books. I didn't sleep all last night. I stayed here organizing the books from things I already read and knew about to things I didn't know yet. Four books remained untouch, but I had to read those books soon needing to know whatever medical background it held. The front door opened and I turned to Carl seeing he had a small smile.

The world turned Carl cold, but he always softened when it came to me. I never knew why. I could always handle his mood swings or yells. He walked over to me in silence and stood in the middle taking a look of the things I changed in here.

" You okay?"

" Denise didn't deserve what happened." I whispered looking up to meet his eyes." She helped save Tara, she saved Scott, saved you."

I rubbed my face with both my hands leaning off of the table and over to him. Once I was in front of him,  I moved my arms from my chest and around his waist pulling him close. He smelled like coffee bean as well as amber and woodsy notes as a base, giving  a deep, rich, and manly undertone that I loved extensively. His lips pressed against my exposed neck and I smiled feeling it travel up until he got to my ear.

" I know and I'm sorry you had to see it up close. I wish I was there." He whispered and I nodded feeling him move his hands to my back pockets.

" You know I love you right ?"

He frowned nodding his head, " Of course, why-"

" That could of been me." I pointed out feeling him tense." It could of, and I just need you to know if something happens to me, that I love you and it's most likely my fault I got killed. I kind of have a big mouth and an even bigger run towards danger. I know I'm a handful but that's why you got two hands."

He shook his head leaning his forehead against my own," I'll never let that happen. You just need to include me by your side when you do shit. You know, I haven't been saying together with you for my health."

" Wait, did you just flirt with me ?"

" Have been for the past two years, but thanks for noticing." He teased and I laughed standing on my tippy toes to give him a kiss.

Holding his hand, I led him out of the infirmary standing on the front porch when the sound of a motorcycle roaring down the streets caught my attention. Confused I craned my head watching Dad exit out of the house all geared up and alone. He's going to hunt Dwight.

" Dad !" I screamed hoping my voice would come over the engine, but he continued passed us heading for the gates of Alexandria." Dad !"

I ran hard keeping my eyes on the gates of Alexandria catching sight of it opening quickly. By the end of the block, Maggie, Glenn, and Michonne stared confused, but I had no time to tell them racing by to make it in time.

" Dad !" I screamed and he spared a glance at me getting back on his bike and racing off out of the gates." No !"

Pumping my arms more, I almost ran out of the gates if it wasn't for Abraham grabbing a hold of me from behind in a tight grip.
