Chapter Forty Three: Spend

Amanda's Pov

I leaned against my kitchen counter tapping my index finger on the side of my coffee cup. I was a parental figure now. I dreamed about this ever since little Maya was born and now I didn't have a clue what I was doing. She was hurt and scared and I knew words of wisdom could help, but I didn't know how to present it. A knock echoed from the front door and I placed my cup down on the counter hoping it wasn't Carl.

I didn't exactly know how to tell the broken hearted kid Maya didn't want to see him. I poked from head from the hall seeing through the marble glass door was Daryl and sighed in relief walking over to open the door.

" Morning Daryl."

" How's Maya ?" He quickly asked walking into the house.

I closed the door before walking past him towards the kitchen," She's confused." I said." I talked to her last night. Carl told her he loves her and she's scared out of her mind. Jane really scared her for life. How could you leave her like that ?"

" I didn't want to." He grumbled.

I ran my hand through my hair feeling the stress." I know." I said looking up to his worried eyes." I just can't and will never get over how badly Jane treated her."

I heard the stairs creak and looked up seeing Maya was awake dressed for the day." Morning." I cheered elbowing Daryl's side to smile.

He gave a small smile watched her come over." Hey Sunshine, how are you ?" He asked.

" I don't know." She mumbled not bothering to smile.

Daryl swayed back and forth uncomfortably before walking closer to her." Maya, I'm leaving today on a little run."

Her face fell and she stared into nothing playing with the end of her army jacket." For how long ?" She asked.

" Maybe a week or two."

She got up off of the island stool and hugged him close. I stared down at the two knowing in the years they have known each other, they grew close." Be careful." She whispered letting him go.

" Promise." Daryl laughed messing with her hair before she laughed for the first time in two days and left out of the house.

Maya's Pov

I walked out of Mandy's house making my way to Finnick's since we been hanging out more over the two days. He visited me at Mandy's with Lucas and I know Daisy wanted me to color in her book as childish as it might seem. I got to their block seeing Finnick talk to Mr and Mrs. Reeves before leaving his porch and Daisy behind.

" Finnick !" I called seeing he turned around confused before his eyes landed on me." Everything okay ?"

He nodded his head beginning to walk again once I was by his side." Yeah, I'm just leaving Daisy with the Reeves."

" Why ?" I asked.

" I'm going on a run." He explained glancing to me." Hey, do you wanna come ?"

I thought about a run and knew I had gone on numerous to know what to do. I think I even needed a breath of fresh air and get a dose of reality.
