Maya's pov
Slashing a walker's head in front of me, I kept walking for already two hours now. The sun had risen, and according to the broken watch on my wrist, it was 7:04 AM. Carl was awake by now, and everyone must have known I left Alexandria. My stomach twisted in a knot, knowing they were all worried about me. They probably were trying to track me, but they wouldn't; I knew how to cover my tracks.
I gripped the kitchen knife in my hand, knowing it was my only weapon against walkers and Negan. I missed my bow dearly and hated that Negan's men took it at the lineup. I missed feeling the quivers on my back and playing with the string of my bow when I got bored. I moved some bushes from my face seeing an abandoned small gas station looted out already. I would have kept walking, but blood littered the ground.
I knelt down to examine it and frowned at when walkers filled my ears. I turned at the sight of a walker with fresh blood on its mouth and gripped the knife in my hand, slicing its head in half. More growls filled my ear, and I gasped at the sight of nine walkers coming towards me. I was completely and utterly screwed. The sharp knife in my hand suddenly felt like a butter knife, but I gripped it, stabbing the walkers the best I could.
Taking one down, I threw it back at the walkers seeing it took two down with it. I slashed one in front of me and kicked the other in the knee, dropping them to the floor and stabbing its head. Swinging my arm, I cut another head off and backed away, needing space before slicing another head off. Four remained, and they were hungrily reaching out with snarls. I drove my knife into the closest walkers head and gasped when the other grabbed my arm, but quickly kicked them down and stabbed their head.
Turning around to the last two walkers, squealing tires filled my ears, and I backed away just in time as a brown car came crashing by me, hitting one of the walkers while the other one went flying over the vehicle. The car crashed against some tanks full of pressurized air, but it wasn't over yet. One lone walker slowly got up, half it's brain exposed, and reached out towards me when the car went into reverse, pinning the walker to a wall.
Breathless, I stared at the walker, hearing the windows roll down and turned, wondering who had saved me. My hand dripped the knife in my hand until my jaw dropped at the driver and immediately released my grip.
" Oh, you got to be kidding me."
Carl Grimes looked up to me breathless, shrugging his shoulder," That's what I said when I woke up this morning."
" I told you not to follow me!"
" And I told you we do things together!" He shouted back, opening the door and getting out." I didn't say it for my health!"
" I need to do this! Not you. That's why I said to not come after me because what I'm doing is life and death." I said, turning to walk away when he grabbed my arm, holding my back.
" Hey, where you go, I go." He stated, letting go of my arm and walking ahead of me." We're in this together you pain in the ass."
I rolled my eyes, adjusting the back on my back and watching him walk down the road," Is this the part where we start singing and dancing that we're in this together?" I sassed, hearing a small chuckle come from his mouth.
" No, we did enough of that last night."
My cheeks flushed, and I swallowed, remembering about last night. It was like I suddenly didn't know what to say or have a sarcastic comment to back me up. My defense mechanism was gone. I looked at him from the corner of my eye and awkwardly walked next to him, wondering if I should ask some questions. Every time I went to open my mouth, I quickly closed it again, shaking my head. Oh, what the hell.
