Chapter Forty Six: First Time Again

Maya's Pov

The only sound in the cold night was eight legs running in the night for safety while only a mere block away the chaos was still unfolding. I gripped Daisy's hand in my own and turned noticing Lucas was running a bit slowly due to the pain in his stomach where from here I could see was seeping blood.

" Lucas come on !" I shouted watching him get to  my side. We ran another block when a loud gunshot had gone off echoing through the neighborhood.

" What was that ?!" Lucas questioned.

I felt Daisy tense under my grasp before I scooped her in my arms nudging Lucas's arm." Come on. Don't look back." I instructed hearing him run once again.

My mind drifted to everyone we had left behind. Did Mandy get shot ? Did Finnick get shot ? Did Rick fire his gun at Pete or end Reg's misery ? I notice the Grimes family's lights on in the living room and ran up the porch before knocking on the door vigorously.

" Carl !"

In seconds the door had flung open and he grabbed my arm pulling me inside" Hurry." He worried letting in Lucas also.

I placed Daisy on the couch taking a look at her tear stained cheeks." Are you okay ?"

" Yes." She croaked.

" I heard a gunshot." Carl spoke walking into the living room." What happened ? Did someone get hurt ?"

" Pete escaped and killed Reg with a katana." I answered standing up and looking into his eyes. I could always get lost in them and desperately had the urge to hold him close to me.

" How would Pete get his hands on a sword ?" Lucas asked breaking the tension.

" Michonne." I answered," He was staying at her house. He must have taken it and left since all of us were at the meeting circle."

Carl frowned." Why did he kill Reg ?" He asked

" He was angry." I replied seeing he looked over to me," He was mad at your Dad. Mad at our group for being here."

" He might have gotten Maya if she didn't move when Mandy told her to." Lucas added and I notice Carl curl his fist.

I shook my head." He wouldn't of. I was close to Rick's side and I know he wouldn't of let him." I said moving to the window seeing no one else was running away." I should go back."

" To risky." Carl protested," What if the gunshot came from Pete ?"

" He only had the sword."

" So why was there a gunshot ?" Carl questioned.

" Your father was the only one with a gun." Lucas whispered when the door opened. Carl and I were the first to swiftly remove our knives from our holster only to see Finnick come through the front door.

" Finnick !" Daisy cried racing past Carl and I to get to her brother. He bent down taking her into his arms and looked back towards us.

" It's okay, Daisy. I promise."

" Is everything okay ?" Lucas asked.
