Maya's pov

The group stood around in a circle looking to the graves of Sophia, Annette, Shawn, Otis, and Dale. Mr. Grimes stood in front of the group taking a deep breathe to see all the sad faces.

" Dale could...could get under your skin. He sure got under mine because he wasn't afraid to say exactly what he thought. How he felt." He said and took a pause to have the words sink in a bit." That kind of honesty is rare and brave. Whenever I made a decision, I'd look at Dale. He'd be looking back at me with that look he had. We've all seen it one time or another. I couldn't always read him, but he could read us. He saw people for who they were. He knew things about us...The truth."

T-dog looked to the sky in honor of Dale thinking of back on the highway, when the old man was looking after him. I felt eyes on me and looked up next to see Daryl was staring at me. I didn't know why he was, but I nodded turning back to Mr. Grimes and feeling a hand on my shoulder.

" Who we really are. In the end he was talking about losing our humanity. He said this group is broken. The best way to honor him is to unbreak it. Set aside our differences and pull together. Stop feeling sorry for ourselves and take control of our lives, our safety, our future. We're not broken. We're gonna prove him wrong. From now on We're gonna do it his way. That is how we honor Dale." Mr. Grimes final words were before kneeling down to Dale's grave and putting his hand on it.

After the funeral, Mr. Grimes and Daryl started talking while the others started packing their items. Carl and I were packing the tent when I realized how sad Carl was. I dropped the items in my hands and looked over to the small, fragile boy.

" The walker that killed Dale." I said and paused looking down." That's why you were running in the woods. That walker was after you?"

" Yes, It's my fault."

" No it's not. It's not like you threw the walker at Dale."

" I don't want to hear it." Carl said leaving the tent while I sadly looked over to the group.

" Gonna be tight, fourteen people in one house." Mr. Grimes said looking up to Maggie, Hershel, and Shane stood near by. I was pretty far from them, but there voices carried over enough for me to hear. It sort of felt like I was finally involved in a Adult conversation.

" Don't worry about that with the swamp hardening, and the creek drying up." Hershel said and Maggie continued looking towards the terrain.

" With fifty head of cattle on the property, we might as well be ringing a damn diner bell."

" She's right. We should've moved you in a while ago."

" All right, let's move the vehicles near each of the doors facing out toward the road. We'll build a lookout in the windmill, another in the barn loft. That should give us sightlines. Both sides of the property." Mr. Grimes paused a moment before looking to T-dog who was leaning against the Greene's blue truck." T-dog, you take the perimeter around the house. Keep track of everyone coming and going."

" What about standing guard ?"

" I need you and Daryl on double duty."

" Gotcha." T-dog said and walked away while Shane looked to Rick realizing he had no job to do.

" I'll stock the basement with food and water, enough that we can all survive there a few days if need be." Hershel said walking by with water jugs and food.
