Maya's Pov
" Why did you bring me out here ?" I asked standing outside seeing Daryl had a walker on a chain with it's mouth and arms cut, courtesy of Michonne. It was beginning to get cold against causing little dragon breaths to come out my mouth and for me to pull on my jacket more to get warmer. Daryl smiled before handing me his crossbow. I frowned which caused him to laugh.
" You wanna learn how to shoot a crossbow, right ?"
" No way ?" I said looking to him with a wide smile before laughing." Wait. You're really teaching me right now ?"
" Yeah. Here." He said letting me grab it and helped." put your foot on the handle."
" Yeah ?"
" And crank the string all the way back till you hear it click." He instructed seeing I did just as he said and with a loud click." Okay, now make sure you keep your hands below the rail here because if you don't, you'll lose some fingers. Now place the arrow carefully inside."
" Got it."
" Now aim the bow like you aim a gun. Look through the middle pretending as if there was a scope. Whenever you're ready...shoot." He said and I took a deep breath before shooting the walker right in the head." Nice."
" I did it !"
" Yes, you did."
" It wasn't so bad. I might just be better at it then you." I teased seeing he laughed.
" Don't get cocky now."
" How come you're teaching me now ? I thought I had to be older to learn."
" With what you're going through...just in case this war seems really bad, I want you to learn to protect yourself just in case I'm not there anymore." Daryl said putting a lump in my throat a bit. I didn't imagine this war getting that bad that lives on there side would be lost and I would have to pull everything I knew to win. Daryl saw my face." You okay ?"
" Yeah...I just...I didn't think it was that bad for you to say that. I guess you skipped that part."
" Don't worry about it."
" But I have to." I stated." Enough with the heavy. Here."
I pulled a bracelet out my pocket and handed it over which Daryl took and smiled seeing it was a black paracord bracelet with a woven crossbow at the end made of wood.
" I made it. When I went to the town with Carl, Rick, and Michonne, I wanted to get you something, but they had nothing, so I made this. I figured I should have gotten you something after you got me the necklace."
" Maya, I love it, but just know you never have to get me something." Daryl said and clipped the bracelet on with a smile. I smiled also and handed the crossbow back.
" I should help Carl and Maggie at the gate."
" Same. Michonne and Glenn need me with the traps. Get going and be safe."
" Can't promise." I stated hearing Daryl laugh. I used the back way and made it to the fences seeing Carl and Maggie with pots and knives.
