Maya's pov

Eugene's plan was the first plan I think that was brilliant on this whole trip. If the RV went one way, and we went the other, it would help us get to the Hilltop a lot faster. When the sun had fallen, we were running. Eugene had volunteered to stay back and distract the Saviors while the rest of us ran with Maggie trying to get out of this place as fast as we could.

Carl sliced one of the walkers head and I ran up ahead with Finnick killing the other two that were left. The cold bit at my cheeks and I shivered hating that I forgot to bring a jacket when running around for Maggie. A hand grabbed my own and I turned seeing it came from Carl in a sense trying to warm me up.

" I heard what you told her when we were leaving." Carl spoke and I looked up seeing he was talking to his father." We can do anything, 'cause we'll do anything we need to do."

" We have and we will." I breathed hearing my teeth chatter loudly.

Carl squeezed my hand tightly, " What happened to Denise, I'm not gonna let anybody die like that again."

" Carl-"

" I didn't mean-"

Carl tried to speak again, but whatever he was going to say was cut off by the sound of whisthling. I froze in my place scowering the woods around us seeing nothing, but the darkness. The whistling grew louder going from high to low all around us. My head whipped around endlessly wanting to know exactly we're the people we're coming from.

" Go!" Rick yelled and I gasped at how scared his voice sounded. His eyes darted to the three of us in front with more anger." Go!"

Carl's hand was on my back in a second pushing me forward into the darkness of the woods. The whistling continued around us in a eerie ghost-like manner. I pumped my arms to my side running for dear life when a blinding light came out from woods. Did I die? Was I already killed? I heard singing of melody and perhaps this was the gates of heaven letting me in.

No Maya. You'll never make it there. The melody slowly returned to whistling and I shuttered at how loud it was. As the blinding light decreased, I was met with a army of forty to fifty men surrounding us. They all wore dark clothes and glared at us holding their weapons tightly. Carl yanked my body backwards and behind him, but I knew that wouldn't save me.

We were profoundly outnumbered. My eyes darted to each member of the Saviors seeing the want of blood in their eyes. They weren't going to let us live. Someone was going to die. Finnick pressed against my back and I grabbed his hand not wanting him to be snatched up. My other hand held onto Carl tightly. I use to absolutely adore the woods, but I knew after today, I was going to hate it.

My safe haven was going to be mark with terrible memories. The whistling gradually decreased and when I looked further into the ocean of Saviors, I noticed Eugene was on his knees crying and bruised just like the man that was hanged had been earlier. Blood dripped from his nose and chin. I felt terrible for what he must have went through after trying to save our lives.

" Good. You made it. Welcome to where you're going."

Out of the shadows, the man from our first encounter came over with a bright smile and a hand on his hips.

" We'll take your weapons." The man added taking his gun from his holster and aiming it at Carl, Finnick, and I. To who it would kill if he pulled the trigger, that was unclear." Now."
