After the game, I sat on the couch watching the tv when I looked up at the clock. 22:00. My dad should've been home by now. I went to FaceTime him as he opened it to see the lit-up space needle behind him.
"Oh god, you're gonna hate me."
"Let me guess, working late?"
"Yeah, sorry baby."
"It's fine."
"No It's not and I feel really bad."
"Dad it's okay."
"No, it's not. I promise I'll make it up to you tomorrow. Hey, but how was the game?"
"Um good."
"Clara said you looked like you were having fun."
"Yeah."
"Well, I've gotta go. I love you, baby."
"Love you too."
As I hung the phone up I went to my Snapchat checking stories. I saw the usual after game lacrosse party till I clicked to someone else Snapchat story seeing Maverick in the background. Maverick was drunk as hell looking almost sickly. Normally I wouldn't care but I didn't want to lose the difficult idiot to drunk driving.
I FaceTimed Asher and when he picked up he was half asleep, "Kova, why are you calling me at almost 11 o'clock at night?"
"You're not at the party?"
"What party?" He had a sudden realization and looked across the room at the empty bed, "Lemme guess my idiot brothers at the party?"
"Yeah."
"Moms gonna kill him for sneaking out."
"No, Ash. I saw a snap of him and he looked almost sick."
"Is your dad home?"
"No, He works late."
"Well, I'm gonna go to the party and try and get him home before he tries to drive."
"Come pick me up."
"You want to come with me?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, I'll be there in a few then."
I changed in a pair of black jeans and still wore Asher's sweatshirt, walking out the door at the exact time Ash pulled up, "Sometimes I wonder why I have a brother," Ash muttered when I got in the car.
"You know where this party is?"
"Yeah. It's Angie's house."
Asher put the Jeep in park as we got out. The house was along on the street and far away from any neighbors allowing for the loud party. Music blasted as we entered.
"AYE!" James yelled holding a bottle of Vodka.
"Wheres Maverick, James?" Asher asked him.
He shrugged, "I'll check outside," I told Asher.
Walking back out the front door around the perimeter of the house to find Maverick sitting with his knees pulled to his chest against the deck, "Maverick?" I asked looking at him. He looked confused, tired, and sad all at the same time, "Mavi," I kneeled down in front of him.
"You find him?" Asher asked walking around, "Dear God you are pathetic," Asher said upon seeing him.
"I saw Angie cheat on me with James," He said starting to cry.
