I exhaled heavily through the helmet watching the cloud of warm air dissipate into the night sky, "You ready?" Asher asked me twisting the stick in his hand.

A small grin formed on my face as looked into the eyes of the guy in front of me. Eastside wasn't about to get the drop on us...

When the whistle blew Maverick got the ball heading upfield. Asher and I just in front of him. Swinging back and forth Asher finally shot for the goal-scoring first . The game continued slowly as we got caught in a stalemate... 1-0. With 5 seconds left in the first quarter, we all waited around for the ref to place the ball in the middle of the field. I spun my stick in a circle looking ahead but everything happened so quickly.

As the net spun slowly I watched a kid dropped to the ground aggressively and just beyond him, I saw Reyes and Kogin hop the gate not having the patience to unlock it. I dropped my stick when I heard the gunshot finally.

Everyone fled. The stands emptied and people ran in opposite directions. The two teams scattered. Stunned for only a moment I ran across the field to the Eastside player laying on the ground while the rest of his team ran.

I threw my helmet aside finding the wound under his gear next to his ribs, "Jesus," I muttered taking most of my gear off I pushed the gear on him up enough to put my jersey against it.

I looked around to see the twins had run into the locker room with the rest of the team. Reyes and Kogin panned the scattered sidelines with guns drawn. I watched my dad running down from the stands and jump down on to the field. The K-9 officer that had been at the entrance started running towards the field the dog yapping to get at someone.

"MOM!" I screamed trying to see if I could find her.

"Hey, I'm here," She said coming behind me.

Another man ran towards us and I immediately got defensive, "Hey it's okay I'm a paramedic," He said putting his hand out.

I just nodded, "Alright Kov, let me take over."

"You alright kid?" The K-9 officer asked walking up to me.

I nodded, "Kova," My dad came running up behind the officer, "I'll watch them to the ambulance gets here," He told the officer.

My dad didn't force me to go in the locker room until more cops started showing up and when I walked in the whole team was anxiety-filled and rabid, "You okay?" Coach asked and I simply nodded walking to one of the sinks and washing the blood off my hands.

We were all able to change back into our normal clothes as the officer took statements. Though most were useless, "You're an idiot," Kogin sighed.

Reyes shook his head slowly but still wrapped his arms around me, "Glad you're safe kitty."

"Kinda wishing you took that dinner over work tonight?" I laughed a little asking Kogin.

"Just so I could be stressing over if you're okay or not? Nah this I'd rather do."

Biting my nail I sat in the back of the truck on the way home from the game, "They weren't after y'all," My dad finally blurted out.

"Then who?"

"The boy they shot... He was part of some Chinese gang out of Capitol hill."

"Is he going to make it?"

"They say he'd be okay," Mom tried smiling.

I sat on the couch later that night next to my dad watching the news.

"At approximately 8:32 tonight the final lacrosse playoff game for the south sound turned to chaos after one man believed to have been part of a gang open fire shooting one player. The player is in stable condition after a player from the opposing team denied running from the scene and instead risked their lives to save them."
