I sprinted across the city my vans carrying me as far as I could. I spun on my heels ripping open the first door I saw and slammed it shut. Breathing deeply I turned around slowly to the bustling deli. I was confused. A police car pulled up in front and shots rang out causing everyone to duck.
"Hiro?" I saw him shooting back at the man across the street, "Hiroshi! Stop!" I shouted running out. I tried forcing him to duck down but he was already on the ground when I got there, "Hiro!" I shouted grabbing his hand. I heard someone behind me and turned to look down the barrel of the gun and my eyes widened refocusing to see Max holding the gun to my forehead.
Just as he pulled the trigger I shot up in my bed screaming. But no one came around. I paused gripping my blanket. I reached over grabbing my phone. It was 2:30 am. I called Jax instead.
"Hey, Kov, what's going on?"
"I... I had a nightmare," It sounded childish coming out of my mouth. Almost 18 and calling it a nightmare.
"You alright?"
"Yeah, I think so. I don't know."
"I'll be there in a minute."
"No Jax you don't have too-"
"Kova give me five minutes."
I sighed, "Alright."
I laid back down for a minute and hadn't realized I'd fallen asleep till someone laying their arm across startled me, "Hey it's just me," Jax quickly clarified. He laid his head down behind me wrapping his arm around me, "You still going to the party tonight right?"
"What?"
"The party... remember, I raced you to my house for it."
"Jax you just got out of the hospital."
"I'm fine, It doesn't even hurt."
"Jax-"
"Shh," He laughed a little putting his hand over my mouth, "You promised,"
By the time I woke up the next morning, Jax was gone. Like he was never there making me question if he ever was there at all. I grabbed a sweatshirt and put the hood up heading upstairs, "Hey-Oh dear," Asher said.
"Bite me," I muttered pulling the chair violently out and sitting down with my arms crossed.
"What's wrong?" My dad asked sighing.
"Nothing!" I said a little louder than excepted.
He sat back a little but didn't ask any more questions, "You hungry?"
I crossed my arms. My dad looked at the twins, "I will give you ten dollars each to get to school early."
They took the bet almost immediately and were gone in seconds, "Alright Coco, what's going on?"
"I'm just tired."
"Yeah... I heard you scream last night."
"Thanks for checking on me," I muttered.
"I knew you were fine munchkin."
Mom walked down putting her hand on my shoulder, "I'm heading to work, have a good day at school," I grabbed her hand from my shoulder and didn't let go when she tried to let go, "Hey, baby, I've gotta go to work," She noted.
I stood up and wrapped my arms around her, "I love you, mommy."
She looked at my dad with a smile but also confused, "I love you too baby,"
