Monday morning came around and the boys were playing video games all day while our parents worked. Jax had been blowing up my phone since Thursday. I responded... But in small phrases. I knew he was worried by the tones of his texts. So I parked my car in front of Charles Wright's front entrance next to Jax's truck.
Since my absence probably hit Jax different since he couldn't come to my house and every time he called I denied. So standing in front of my Mustang I wanted to surprise him. I mean I'd seen it in a movie.
The girlfriend makes it up by wearing something cute. Like the short jean skirt and a tucked-in orange teeshirt. I wore the pair of brand new black vans Reeves had bought just the day prior.
I heard the school bell ring and the younger kid darted for the buses and the older kids towards their cars. I saw Jax walk off the school looking tired. His uniform wrinkled and his hands in his pockets as his tie barely stayed in place from the wind.
"Yo, who is that," I heard a guy behind me as they walked past.
"I don't know man but she is fine," He laughed.
"Go get her snap."
Jax finally saw me standing next to his truck as he ran towards me, "Oh my god," He laughed as he picked me up and swung me around, "What happened to you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine Jax," I smiled.
He noticed the guy that had been walking towards me and pulled me into his arms spinning around, "Mine," He sneered back at them.
I grinned laying my head against his chest, "Wait can you come over?" Jax asked me.
"Yeah."
"Race you?"
"Dude, I'm in a mustang, you're in a truck. You are so gonna lose."
"Wanna bet?"
"Alright fine, what's up for offer?"
He thought for a moment, "If you win I will... buy the new Call of duty for us."
"And if you win?"
"You have to come to a party with me next Friday."
"No... Jax, Me, and parties don't work out very well."
"Hey, this ain't a public high school party."
"Oh, so privates supposed to be better?"
"Yeah!" He grinned, "But hey I wanna show you something. Close your eyes," He forced me to put my hands over my eyes as I waited but then heard a door slam and the diesel engine start-up.
"That's not fair!" I shouted opening my door.
I looked behind me after crossing the bridge to see him nowhere around... He really thought that hunk of metal was gonna beat my Mustang. grinning to myself as I pulled into the driveway I saw Jax sitting on his tailgate waiting for me, "How?!"
"Know the back roads... duh," He laughed.
I shook my head as we made our way upstairs to his room, "Are you're parents never home?"
"My dad's actually on his way home. But if it's alright with you I don't want you guys meeting yet," He said.
"I'm keeping you from everyone I know so guess that's fair."
He loosened the tie and tossed it to the side and unbuttoned the short falling back on his bed, "I'm so tired."
"Me too."
