"Kova!" My English teacher yelled across the room startling all of us as we worked on our essays.

"Jesus," I muttered.

"Stop tapping your pen."

"It's a pencil, not a pen, and I'm sorry it annoys you- but if you didn't assign an essay every week I wouldn't have the anxiety that's causing my pen to tap!"

Fuck, I just said that out loud.

She didn't even hesitate to pull out the red slips. I sighed... Here comes the detention.

"Dean's office. Now," She slapped the note down.

Just as I was walking out a boy stuck his hand out, "Respect," He grinned high fiving me.

"Mr. Martinez, we do not encourage disrespectful behavior in this classroom!"

He chuckled, "Yeah, whatever."

"Alright," She slapped a red note on his desk, "Since you two seem so buddy-buddy, I hope you enjoy your time together in the Dean's office."

He stood up and walked out of the classroom in front of me. He didn't seem resentful about his decisions at all. But he took an immediate left out the door towards the parking lot.

"Where are you going? The office is this way."

He laughed, "You do realize the Dean doesn't know we're coming and the teacher won't know we didn't go."

"So what...?"

"I'm going home."

Shaking my head walked into the dean's office he looked, "What'd you do?" He asked. I just handed over the note, "Aww Disrespectful and disruptive. Alright take a seat I'll have to call your parents."

"Dads at work. Moms at work too."

He went down the emergency contact list, "Eddie Charleston-"

"Work."

"Maxwell Reyes?"

"Also work."

"Hiroshi Kogin?"

"Take a stab."

"I really don't wanna call Reeves but I guess I have to..." He sighed. 25 minutes of sitting there Reeves showed in full uniform.

"What stupid claim am I dealing with- Kova?" He said confused.

"Take a seat." The dean sighed.

Reeves looked at me confused, "She didn't do it," Reeves noted immediately.

I looked over at him, "Actually I did," I muttered.

"Well, whatever she did the kid deserved it."

"She was talking back to her teacher and disrupting class."

Reeves was genuinely shocked since I'd never disrespect my teachers despite how mad they make me, "Oh."

He sat back staring at me in disbelief, "We've recently adopted a new punishment policy. The student following the incident is immediately removed from the classroom for five days and its suck by themselves in the library."

"Sounds like solitary confinement to me," Reeves nodded.

"Durning the day of the incident the student is to be taken off the school grounds."

I sighed. Reeves wasn't going to be happy, "Alright, grab your stuff, Coco. Let's go."

Once sitting down in the passenger seat of the SUV Reeves looked over me, "What have we always taught you and Finn?"
