"Kov. Yo Kova! Earth to Kova!"
I ignored Maverick attempts to get my attention as we walked into school. It was Wednesday and Finn wasn't supposed to be back till Friday. I need my tea spiller back cause you best be knowin' I'm telling him everything.
"Kova!" Asher finally tried yelling.
Nothing.
"Dude, she's ignoring us," Maverick told him.
"No shit sherlock."
"I haven't gotten an insult or snarking comment in two days from her. Should I be happy or concerned?"
"I heard Kaleo talking to mom about how she's seemed really unfocused the past few days."
"Doesn't she have ADHD?"
"OCD Dumbass," Asher corrected.
The twins watched me from across the hallway when Asher texted me. I picked up my phone looking at it but swiped it off the screen, "Dude she left me on read."
"Okay somethings definitely wrong with her. What'd you do?"
"Me?"
"Yeah, when you drove her home on Monday what happened?"
"I didn't drive her home Monday. She disappeared after she left during lunch."
As I sat down for lunch at the table not going to my car I put my earbuds in an instead picked up a book. The Giver. My dad read it to me every night when I was a kid. I have two copies. The first one was one my dad snatched from the school library and is pretty beat up. Mine I got for my 15th birthday. I kept reading it over and over again just cause I knew what was going to happen and it helped calm me down.
Out of nowhere one of my earbuds was ripped out causing me to look up and see Maverick, "Give me the AirPod," I said sticking my hand out.
"No. Not till you tell me what the hell is going on with you."
"Nothings going on. Can I have my music back?"
"No. Kova you went radio silent after you looked at your phone on Monday. You acted like you got a ransom text or something."
Might as well been.
"Maverick give me the earbud... Please."
He slammed it down in my palm, "You can't ignore me forever. Weddings in three days."
"Two and a half," I corrected putting the earbud back in.
I kept my earbuds in for most of the day walking around the school only taking them out with the teacher was talking. I watched the clock hit 2:00 and headed for the parking lot. Maverick stood in front of Angie trying to balance a Lacrosse stick on his nose like a seal, James and Angie laughed along with a few others, Asher stood off to the side drinking out of a water bottle while probably cursing Angie's name.
I opened the backdoor tossing my backpack in catching the twin's attention when I closed the door, "Hang on," Maverick put the stick on the tailgate walking towards me, "Kov," I ignored him getting in the truck. Fumbling a bit for my key I went to start the engine but it wasn't turning over.
I banged my head on the steering wheel. I reached down popping the hood and opening my door forcing Maverick to step aside, "Kov-"
"Not now Maverick. I don't have time nor patience for you right now."
"Kov, I just wanna talk."
"I don't care what you want Maverick," I pushed the hood up and grabbed the metal pole to keep it up. I stared at the engine not sure what was the problem.
