After getting home from practice stood at the stove, "Are you cooking dinner already?" I asked.
"No, just cooking some chicken to put in the soup before the power goes out so we can heat it up on the fireplace."
She went to the fridge but sighed, "Hey Maverick can I send you to the store to get chicken broth?"
"Yeah," He nodded grabbing his keys.
"I'm coming with!" I shouted after him.
As we pulled onto the street a few raindrops fell on the windshield, "Here comes the storm."
Immediately after he said that rain started dumping down, "Should've kept your mouth shut," I muttered.
He rolled his eyes laughing, "Finn okay?"
"Yeah, he's fine. But I don't see him coming to school tomorrow."
"Understandably."
"You okay?"
"Why do you keep asking me that?"
"I don't know... a lot's happened in the last few days. I just wanna make sure you're okay."
He looked at me grinning, "I'm fine-"
"MAVERICK!"
An electric pole fell on top of the car right in front of us. Maverick went to open the door, "No Mavi, wait," I grabbed his arm, "Live wires."
"Well then what do we do."
"Call 9-1-1 duh."
He pulled out his phone, "9-1-1 what's your emergency."
"A wire pole just fell on the car in front of us."
"Are you in you're car?"
"Yes ma'am."
I caught out of the corner of my eye the other poles being tugged at by the wind and wires on the ground. As Maverick described the location to the dispatcher I reached over gripping his arm. He looked over confused but saw me looking at the swaying pole. That's when it snapped Maverick pulled me close to him protecting my head as the pole directly on top of us. Things were quiet for a moment as I held tightly onto Maverick, "You okay?" He asked me.
I nodded, "I'm good."
As we waited impatiently for the fire department I could finally hear the sirens behind us, "Finally," Maverick said quietly.
After completely cutting the power two firefighters walked over opening each side of the Bronco, "How do you always end yourself up in trouble?" He asked me and I noticed it to be Hunter.
"Gotta keep you on you're toes."
"Or scare me to death..."
"You and my dad."
"You're good at that."
"You look alright," He said looking me up and down.
"Yeah despite the fact that it's cold and raining and I'm in a teeshirt."
"You can sit in the truck if you want."
"No, we have to go to the store and get some things."
"Alright well, be careful... please."
"I will."
He grinned giving me a small hug before we left again.
After we got home from the store Clara ran around the house frantically, "Mom What're you doing?"
