I woke up alone, and went to get breakfast before I went to start my first official day of being a medjack. I grabbed my bacon and went and sat down next to Thomas and Chuck. "Good Morning Annabelle" Chuck said, looking extra happy this morning.
"Hey chuck" I said and returned his smile.
"I saw newt talking to Minho and Alby at the doors this morning" Thomas told me.
I just nodded, not knowing how to respond. Thomas picks up fast on details and is extremely curious.
Newt then came and sat down next to me. "Good morning" I said. Newt smiled and I pushed my breakfast towards him. "Here, eat"
"I'm good" he said
"I know you're stressed but you need to eat, Minho is strong and van handle what the maze throws at him" I said, trying to help
"Alright" Newt sighed and began picking food off my plate. The bell sounded throughout the glade signaling its time to work. Chuck was telling Thomas a story while they headed off in the opposite direction I am going.
"Try not to miss me to much" I told Newt, making our way over to the homestead.
"I always miss you during the day." He said and I laughed.
"What's so bloody funny?" He asked.
I don't really know what is funny so I just shrugged "I'll see you at dinner" I said.

No one has come in all day long, I've been sitting here listening to Clint and Jeff talk all day long. "Have Minho and Alby gotten back yet?" I asked.
"No. And the other runners showed up a while ago." Jeff said.
"Oh my gosh I bet Newt is having a heart attack" I said.
"Go check on him." Clint said
"You should go too, aren't yall worried about Minho and Alby?" I asked them
"I've been trying not to think about it, but yeah I'm worried. Let's all go." Jeff said.
"How long until the doors close?" I ask while we were making our way across the glade to the large crowd of boys already waiting at the wall.
"Should be any minute." One of them said but I just started to run. I can see Newt, Thomas and Gally up at the front of the pack so I squeezed my way up to them.
"Nothing?" I asked Thomas.
He shook his head and asked loudly, wanting someone else to answer him "can't we send someone after them?"
"Yeah seriously, someone could just go out for a minute and look" I said and newt, who I guess just realized I was standing there, grabbed my wrist and gave me a look that said 'if you do that I will kill you.'
"It's against the rules" Gally answered "either they make it back or they don't."
I could tell Newt is on the breaking point, and suddenly the doors started to close. I wrapped my arms around newts torso and he wrapped one arm around my body.
"There" Thomas pointed and I looked to see Minho turning a corner, dragging Alby
"Something's wrong." I said
"They aren't going to make it" Newt said and screams broke out trying to encourage Minho but the doors were closing fast. Suddenly Thomas bolted through the almost closed doors
"Thomas no!" Chuck yelled and Newt and Gally tried to grab him. Then faster than you could say shuckface the doors were closed, locking Thomas, Minho and Alby in the maze.
People started to disperse and soon it was just Newt and I standing at the wall. "Newt" I said.
He suddenly engulfed me in a hug, crying, "Promise me you'll never go into the maze. That you'll never leave me"
"I promise" I said quietly while Newt continued to cry into my shoulder.
"They're dead Annabelle, they're dead." Newt said
"You don't know that" I told him, trying to get him to be hopeful, but it is no use. As I've heard so many times, no one ever survives a night in the maze.
We stood there, embracing each other at the doors of the maze, for I don't know how long. "Come on, you should get some sleep" I said
"I can't bring myself to go sleep in a bed when they are out in the bloody maze" newt said and went to sit next to the wall. "But you go ahead Belle"
"I'm not going up there without you, so I guess we will both be sleeping on the ground." I said and Newt chuckled, but I can tell he is stressed.
"Come here" he said and I sat next to him and put my head on his shoulder. "Belle" I heard.
"Yeah Newt?" I asked sitting up to look at him.
I don't know what I was expecting him to say, but it took me by surprise when he crashed his lips onto mine.
