Banishment

"Bandage up that slicers arm then you are free to go." Jeff told me.

Today has been a slow day since Thomas, Minho and Alby got back in the glade this morning and Ben attacked Thomas. Well actually this morning was very eventful but all afternoon Newt, Minho and Thomas have been off somewhere. And besides the slicer whose arm I am bandaging, no one has needed a med-jack today. Besides Alby, of course, but I'm not allowed to help with him because I'm the 'least experienced' and he's 'the best leader we could ask for.' All just sounds like klunk to me.

"You're good to go" I told the boy and walked out behind him. I looked around the glade, but saw no one. "Annabelle!" I heard Chuck and I turned to my left to see him walking over to me.

"Hey chuck" I smiled

"It's almost sundown, are you going to watch Bens banishment?" He asked, his face serious

"Banishment? What's banishment?" I asked

"They are forcing Ben out into the maze to be eaten by grievers" he said

"What? No. They can't do that" I said.

"I mean he tried to kill Thomas, and he got you right in the face too" he pointed to my cheek.

"Maybe he'll survive like Thomas and Minho?" I questioned

"No for banishments they put a collar around your neck for the grievers to sense. And when the grievers are done with the person" he paused "they leave the collar right in front of the doors"

"But-" I started

"Which makes more impossible to survive when it was already impossible. I don't know how Minho and Thomas did it but you can't expect that ever again" he told me.

This is the most serious conversation I've ever had with chuck. I nodded and turned around to see Newt and Minho walking towards Chuck and I.

"Belle" Newt said and hugged me. The hug took me by surprise, because he doesn't really show affection to me publicly. We've only ever kissed alone.

Just thinking of the kiss gives me butterflies
"You guys are gross" Minho said and I pulled away from the hug.

Newt rolled his eyes but looked at me. "Belle I don't want you going to Ben's banishment"

"Why not?" I asked.

"Because it's going to be hard for all of us, and I don't want you to have to see that" he said

"It's almost sundown" Minho said.

"Newt this is the last time I'll ever see him I have-" I started

"Belle" newt said and gave me a sad look and walked away with Minho, I'm guessing to go get Ben.

"Well sounds like you're not going" chuck said and started to walk off.

I grabbed his shoulder "of course I'm going" I said

"But Newt said"

"I don't care" I said

"You should, he is second in command. And you have a crush on him" he said and I felt my cheeks heat up.

"No I don't" I said, even though I really do.

"It's so obvious" he said and laughed at the fact I was blushing. "But it's okay because he likes you too"

"Chuck shut up before I give you a bruise like the one on my cheek" I said

Chuck just kept laughing and walked over to the boys standing in a formation around the door. Thomas stood a little ways back so I went and stood next to him.

Chuck had now stopped laughing, realizing we are about to watch our friend get sent to his death. "You okay?" I asked Thomas

"Yeah I'm fine but are you alright?" He asked

"I've been better" I said and sighed "but yes I'm alright"

"Stop! Minho stop! I'm sorry. I was just going crazy because of the changing. Please listen to me." Bens screams started and I stiffened.

Images of me singing to Ben in the homestead popped into my mind. Thomas put an arm around me. "You don't have to watch" he said into my ear and I nodded.

"Please! He's bad! I saw him. Please just listen to me!" Ben kept screaming, making it harder for me to breath. Watching this hurts so much, Ben really is a good guy they should listen to him. I tried to block out his crus and screams and just focus on Thomas' breathing.

"Annabelle!" He screamed, getting my attention. "Please don't let them do this to me. I'm sorry. Please Annabelle help he"

This is when the tears came. Tears fell down my cheeks and I looked over at Newt, who had stiffened.

I couldn't bare it anymore and I turned my fave into Thomas' chest and he rubbed my back and I heard the walls begin to close "Please you are my brothers. Minho! Please don't do this. Annabelle help me" he cried and let out one more ear splitting scream before the doors closed, locking him out in the maze to die.

"It's over" Thomas said into my ear and I looked up from his chest. I turned around and saw Newt heading towards us.

"Newt I-" I tried to talk but more tears kept falling for the loss of my friend.

"Let's just get you to bed." He said and I turned around and waved at Thomas and followed Newt.

"Newt I'm sorry but he was my friend and I needed to be there" I said and Newt stopped.

"I'm not mad at you Belle" he said and wrapped an arm around my waist. "I just didn't want this to happen"

I nodded and we walked into our room and I sat on the bed.

"I hate seeing you sad." He said and sat next to me, and I put my head on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry" I said and looked down

"No don't apologize. I should have been there to comfort you, not bloody Tommy." He said and rolled his eyes

"Oh yeah Thomas is a real catch" I said and he looked at me with a pained look. "I'm kidding" I said and smiled

Newt smiled too. "I should have been there for you this morning too" he said and grazed his finger lightly over the bruise on my cheek, but I still winced.

"You don't always have to be there to protect me" I said looking him in the eyes. He pressed his lips to mine, but only for a second, and pulled away.

"But I want to be Belle. I want to be the one that's always there for you. Just me and the" he stopped and looked like he was struggling for words.

I touched the bottom his chin to make him look at me "hey it's alright" I said and smiled

He took a deep breath and continued "Belle will you be my girlfriend?" He asked, taking me by surprise.

"I don't know" I said and tried to hide the huge smile that was about to creep on my face.

"Love I'm sorry for everything that has happened to today an-" he mumbled but I cut him off

"I'm only giving you a hard time. Of course I'll be your girlfriend" I said and a huge grin played across his lips.
