“We get excluded again”
I say and Miso chuckles
“You know mom and dad, they going to tell us whatever it is when we back home. Our parents don’t hide things from us Aya”
He says and I roll my eyes
“Still, they shouldn’t exclude us like that”
He laughs
“You being dramatic. How are things with your boyfriend?”
He asks with a raised eyebrow
“Why?”
He shrugs
“I’m just asking that’s all. I mean you are dating the most notorious hacker there ever was”
He says, I won't lie I didn’t know my little brother knew that
“How do you know about that?”
I ask and he chuckles
“Aya I’m the last born, the most ignored person here. I sit back and observe everything that happens around me. You think your parents don’t know that your boyfriend is the most notorious hacker there ever was?”
He says with a chuckle, careless and laid back it's annoying
“If they know then how come they haven’t said anything?”
I ask and he shrugs
“Yaya’s mom hated dad at some point but she knew that if she forbad her then she would be pushing her to him”
He says
“So what's the story? Is he self taught or? Does he commit crimes and stuff?”
He asks fascinated
“No! he only pulled one stunt to get attention from this other company he is currently working for either than that he’s legit and he’s clean”
I say and he nods
“Whatever you say”
He says
“You seem to know more than I do”
I say and he chuckles
“I don’t know anything that you don’t sis”
He says and I just nod. Whatever Miso thinks he knows it's not it. I switch on the tv and they talking about the latest job the $pitz recently pulled off.
“Nobody knows who they are til date”
Miso says with his eyes glued to the tv all so impressed
“Then how are they so known if nobody knows them?”
I ask and he shrugs
“Their reputation”
He says and I nod slowly refocusing my attention on the tv, I sit down beside him because really it's interesting how they work, fraud, robbing banks and other things without being seen or noticed by anyone. The door opens and mom storms in fuming which is a rare sight
“Everything ok?”
I ask
“Who the hell does Kate think she is huh?”
She says taking her shoes off and throwing them on the floor
“Honey calm down”
Dad pleads with mom, she sits down on the couch
“What happened?”
I ask looking at Yanga who shrugs
“Dad?”
I say
“I’ll bring you water”
Yanga says and walks out to get water for mom, ok! Whatever Kate said must have really pissed her off
“You ok?”
I ask Mercy as she sits on the same couch as Miso and I, she nods
“I’m ok”
I raise an eyebrow
“So what now?”
Yanga asks walking in, he hands mom the water
“We dig up everything and anything we can find on him!”
Mom says
“People what is going on?”
I say, Mercy takes a deep breath and then starts talking
“Macella Brown was my mother’s name and Mercy was a nickname she had apparently gotten from her parents, my real name is Maliah Cole. My father sold me off to pay a debt to Eric Conway. Eric Conway uses his business as a front to sell and traffic girls but with me he didn’t sell me right away because I was too young and needed to be taught a couple of things before I could be sold off at an auction. I didn’t run away on my own, one of his man was my mother’s ex and so he helped me run away to Carli. He got me a new id and passport and helped me get away, made it look as if I ran off on my own and from then I never looked back and I made sure to lay low hence Yaya found me downtown in the streets. He never stopped looking for me and we haven’t seen each other since then, well until yesterday. Today Yaya confronted him and he denied even knowing me, Kate and Yaya went off at each other”
Mercy says
“woah rewind! What?”
I say
“Damn! That’s a lot”
Miso says and Mercy nods
“Yep”
She says
“We can't go about this prematurely. Kate knows about the rape, and that could destroy me”
Dad says
“Not if you get ahead of the story first. The guy traffics kids!”
Mom says
“Wait! What?”
I say, honestly all this is a lot to take in and process all at once
“I can't accept your help if it means you lose your career”
Mercy says and Yaya shakes her head no
“Look, Eric needs to pay for what he did to you and every other person that didn’t get help. We just need to build a strong case against him”
Yaya says
“And where’s Kyle?”
Miso asks
“We left him there”
Yaya says and just then someone knocks on the door, Yanga walks up to open it and Kyle walks in with Clark
“Hey, I didn’t think you’d come here”
Yaya says
“You my mother. You guys are my family”
Kyle says and Yaya smiles and gets up to hug him, they break the hug
“Dad how do we go about this?”
He asks
“You believe me?”
Mercy asks
“Of cause. You my little sister and if there's anything I have learnt working with dad is that a person can lie with their mouth but not with their eyes. As soon as we back home Clark will help me build a case against him”
He says and he and Mercy share a hug
“thank you”
Mercy says and he smiles
“I understand your excitement but we have to go about this the right way. Conduct enough research and understand that you are opening a can of worms over this because the press will be involved and with such cartels a lot of people are bound to come after you and our family in general. If we doing this then I would suggest that Mercy moves to South Africa with my parents for her safety. Away from the case”
Dad says
“I’ll move with her”
