-AYANDISWA BESS
“I just read about the article on Macella, how was the art show?”
Connie asks
“it went ok, her work is actually beautiful”
I admit, I know my friends won't hold it against me while my siblings would
“You should give her a shot Aya, make her feel welcome and at home. She’s not going anywhere you know”
Venessa points that out, we in a videocall
“I found her and my naked brother kissing yesterday”
I say and Leah laughs
“And she wasn’t naked?”
Leah asks still in stitches
“Leah it's not funny! Which brother?”
Venessa asks, I forget that she has a crush on Kyle
“Not Kyle if that’s what you asking. I don’t even understand this thing you have for my brother”
I say pulling a disgusted face which makes her roll her eyes
“I don’t get why you don’t want us dating your brothers, they are all HOT!”
Connie says, she has a crush on Yanga. They are all so annoying
“So who was it?”
Leah asks
“It was Yanga, and no she was dressed”
I say still pulling a disgusted face at the mere thought of them doing more than kissing
“Ouch, so does that mean they dating?”
Connie asks and I laugh at her together with Leah
“Girl get over him already. You’ve known the guy for what now? 5 years and not once have you made a move”
I say annoyed
“Yanga is not the kind of guy you make a move on”
She defends
“Well he hasn’t made a move on you, you literally invisible to him bruh!”
Leah points it out to her and sadly she is right, Yanga doesn’t look at my friends in any way different than the way he looks at me
“he sees all of you as little sisters so best you get over him friend”
I say and she sighs
“Honestly I thought you’d be over this thing by now but I guess some crushes die hard”
Leah says unapologetically. Leah is the straight talker of the group while Connie and Venessa are the kind of people that sugarcoat things, I love all of them but my best friend has to be Leah, she was the first friend I ever made when we moved this side while the rest we picked up along the way. We continue with our conversation and then end the call, I take a nice long soothing bath and then drain out the water then clean up my space, brat as I may be but Yaya doesn’t tolerate the whole spoilt brat thing. Our mother drilled it within all of us at a young age to clean up after ourselves and it's been with each and everyone of us since then. After everything I get dressed and then head downstairs and the family is in the lounge.
“Family”
I greet and they all respond
“Your food is in the microwave”
Mercy says and I frown confused but I don’t protest and head to take my plate, it's a normal English breakfast with all the works, it actually looks yummy like a mugg and bean type of breakfast. I warm it and then take 2 slices of toast and then head out to the lounge where they talking about today’s paper and how Mercy got enough exposure last night.
“Where’s Miso and Aunty Kate?”
I ask settling down beside Yanga
“Miso went to meet up with his friends to discuss a project and Kate went to meet up with Kyle”
Mom says and I nod
“Why is she here suddenly?”
I ask seeing that she came unannounced,
“Kyle will probably tell you guys when they have spoken”
Yaya says dismissively and I look at them both but they don’t budge
“Why wasn’t your name mentioned in the article?”
I decide to ask Mercy and she looks down
“Aya don’t”
Dad says
“Why? It's just a question. It doesn’t make sense how she was featured in the show but her name was not mentioned in the article and yet it's about her”
I push
“I don’t like the spotlight”
Mercy finally says and I raise an eyebrow
“Then why even agree to be featured if you didn’t want to be known?”
I ask with a raised eyebrow
“hows your food Ayandiswa?”
Mom asks and I know she’s doing that to divert the conversation to something else
“It's actually nice”
I say
“Yeah, Mercy decided to spoil us with breakfast today”
Mom says with her colgate million dollar smile
“I just had to thank you guys for the taking me in and for affording me the opportunity yesterday. I am really grateful”
She says pulling a shy smile, damn she is a great actress
“You don’t have to thank us Mercy I told you”
Dad says
“You are like family to us and us being able to do the little we can for you is more than enough, you really don’t have to thank us dear”
Dad adds and she smiles
“You’re a good kid and deserve some good in your life”
Mom says and she smiles
“Anyway, I would like to do that photoshoot”
Mom says randomly, I’m taken aback
“Photoshoot?”
Yanga asks and Yaya nods
“Yes Photoshoot. Remember I said I wanted to do a photoshoot with each one of you guys for my next exhibition. I haven’t done a shoot with you guys in a long time”
Yaya says, ever since she lost Yazy she never did shoots with us for exhibitions all she ever did was take pictures of us for the house but nothing for people to visit at a gallery and see so of cause I’m excited
“So it will be a Bess thing right?”
I ask with a smile excluding Mercy on purpose
“and Mercy”
Yanga adds and I roll my eyes
“I’m glad you guys get along Yanga and Yes, it will be all of you guys”
