ONE WEEK LATER
-YANDISWA BESS
It's been a week since the funeral and leaving that place. Things have been ok between my husband and I, honestly I'm still not ok with him handing everything over to Micah. Yes we all friends and what not but what happens if he dies or something? What about our children? We've spoken about it and i'm still uncomfortable with the situation but my husband is not one to easily change his mind where business is concerned.
"Michael signed and now I just need your signature"
He says placing papers in front of me, I look at them and then at him. He walks around the couch and sits beside me
"My signature?"
I ask him and he nods
"Yes, there's a clause that states if anything ever happened to me then Michael is liable to sign everything else over to you"
He says and I frown
"Melo I-"
I start off but he cuts me off
"It's just a safety precaution that's all. How are things with Mercy?"
He asks and I shrug
"She's not exactly excited about living her life here behind but this is for her safety. I already spoke to mom and she's ok with her moving in with her in the Eastern Cape, at least that way they won't find out anything about her. Today our fake passports were delivered"
I mention and he looks at me
"And when will you guys be leaving?"
He asks
"I was thinking I book us flights tomorrow for Friday. I'll be back after a week"
I say and he nods, we spoke proper about me leaving and we decided that I would be gone for a week max. It's not like there's anything special either than me missing the environment and my other friends that I left back in South Africa.
"pretty sure your mom can't wait to see you again"
He says and I smile
"Yes she is excited but she was also looking forward to coming this side and to see the kids"
He chuckles
"Those things are anything but kids"
I laugh
"Those are my children and not things"
I say and he laughs, he takes my hand into his and kisses it
"I love you ok? I will make things right"
He says and I smile
"I trust you"
I sign the papers and then return them to him. I go and get dressed getting ready to meet up with Ash who called me asking to meet up for lunch with her at some restaurant. I park and then get out and go inside, my eyes roam around until I spot her and she's on the phone. I walk over to the table she is in and we share a hug as she says her goodbyes. I place my order and we start catching up
"Micah just told me Derrick signed everything over to him. Yaya what is going on?"
I let out a sigh and narrate everything that happened to her
"You do know that my brother can help with this right? Austin is a criminal and he must know something about Eric"
She says and she's right, her brother is the head of this other dangerous gang that is involved in everything
"Look, Austin loves you and he would do anything to help you out unlike having to owe some criminal out there that you don't know."
She says and I shrug
"Eish Ash I don't know"
I say
"Nonsense, I know my brother as much as you know him and where you are concerned, he will help without expecting anything in return. I will call him and get back to you"
She says and I smile, Austin once had a crush on me but it was never serious since he is my friend's little brother so he and I have a brother sister type of relationship though I haven't seen or heard from him in almost a year now
"Thank you my friend"
I say
"Don't mention it. When he and I have spoken I'll get back to you ok?"
She says and I nod
"I still cant believe Kate would say that!"
I shrug
"After a while I came to understand her and why she stuck by her husband, if roles were reversed I would have too. Eric leads a double life away from his family the same way Austin does the difference is that Austin's wife knows and Kate is left in the dark. I can't hold what happened against her"
She looks at me for a while
"Its your good heart that ends you up in situations you cant get out of. Kate didn't need to mention the rape. That was low"
I chuckle
"Low as it was, it's the truth though. Truth hurts I guess"
She chuckles
"How are things with the kids?"
I ask her and she laughs
"They are a handful I'll admit but parenthood is the best thing ever Yaya. I mean looking back from where I once was I honestly never thought I would be here with two beautiful children"
She says and I smile
"They are good kids. You did a great job my friend"
She giggles
"Micah told me Miracle has a girlfriend"
We both laugh
"I'm serious, pretty sure Miso has someone too"
She says and I laugh
"I would know if Miso had a girlfriend. My soon is still single, his father even thought he's gay. He sat him down a couple of months ago and had the talk with him about how he would be ok if he turned out gay"
I narrate and she laughs
"What?! Your husband is too much"
I chuckle
"You think. My poor baby couldn't, Melo is mad!"
She laughs
"and Yanga? Surely he can't be happy with you leaving with his girlfriend"
I laugh
"You think? He was on some, he's going with her and I told him straight up that he aint going nowhere"
She laughs
"Yaya come on"
I laugh
"I was still pissed over the Kate thing and then he tells me that he's moving all because of a girl. I love Mercy a lot but this relationship of theirs is still new and one of them could end up hurt. I can't help feel like they are the next Melo and I with how they started and all"
I say
"But Yaya your sons are nothing like Melo ever was, maybe they just good kids"
She says and I chuckle
"I know we raised them well but it's the mother in me that makes me worry. Nobody in a relationship plans to get hurt but what happens if one of them screws up? What happens with the family? Are we forced to take sides or just leave it be? Of all things I was never warned about a situation like this one before. I have no idea how to do this"
