-MACELLA BROWN
“Macella this is my husband’s mother and father, Amahle and Damon Bess”
Yaya says and I shake each of their hands
“It is nice to meet you both”
I say
“It is nice to finally meet you too honey. We have heard so much about you, Yanga cannot shut up about you”
Amahle says and I can't help blush. We landed today in Joburg and took another flight to Durban where Amahle and Damon reside and they were very welcoming to us, it suddenly makes so much sense why Yaya and her husband are such good people because her inlaws are just as good of people
“So what trouble did you kids manage to get yourselves in?”
Amahle asks and Yaya giggles
“Haibo Mah, there no trouble here”
She says
“When my son calls his father asking about contacts for the most notorious gang leader Damon has ever defended before then we are definitely going to ask questions. What is going on Yandiswa?”
Amahle says, Yaya lets out a sigh
“we just need to keep Mercy safe from Kate’s husband”
Yaya says
“meaning?”
Damon asks looking at me
“I was sold off to Eric Conway when I was 10 but my uncle helped me run away from him”
I explain and they gasp in shock
“WOW! And Kate knows about this?”
Amahle asks and Yaya nods
“We told her and she didn’t want to believe us so we figured if we going to be going after her husband then it would be best we take Mercy into hiding just until the case blows over. We fear they might try something”
Yaya explains
“And what does Kate have over you and Melo?”
Damon asks
“Nothing”
Yaya says quickly, I look at her
“Are you sure? Because the way you were so quick to answer says a lot”
Damon says and Yaya forces a smile
“they don’t have anything dad. If you will please excuse us, I need to show Mercy where she will be sleeping and take a nice long bath”
Yaya says and they look at us suspiciously
“Ok then. It was nice meeting you Mercy, I hope we can spend enough time together and get to know you”
Amahle says and her husband nods in agreement, we then get up and go upstairs with our luggage
“They don’t know?”
I ask her and she nods
“no they do not”
Yaya says as we walk up the stairs and I would like to keep it at that for now”
She says
“Why?”
I ask her
“I never told them because I knew that they would cut Melo off and convince me to leave him when the incident had happened”
She says as we get into a room
“This is where you will be sleeping”
Yaya says and I nod
“You really love him huh?”
I ask her and she smiles and nods
“More than 20 years later and I still love him. i could have walked away from him but I couldn’t, I wanted to but I chose not to stay and as much as people may judge me for it but after that incident things changed, Melo fixed his life up and we fixed our marriage”
She says and I nod
“Would you advise Aya or me to stay if one of our partners did that to us?”
I ask her and she chuckles
“Honestly?”
She asks and I nod
“No but I know better than to intervene in matters I enter nowhere in. What involves 2 people needs no third party. You see with Melo, he beat himself up over what he did more than I did and that’s how I knew that he regretted what he did and would never do it again, he hated himself and to me that was all the proof I needed that he wouldn’t do it again and since then he hasn’t done it again”
I nod
“Now I’m not saying other men are different but to leave or to stay would be up to you and if your partner violates you more than once then honey you better leave because he will continue to do it until you are probably dead”
She leaves me to shower and I do everything and change into something comfy then try to videocall Yanga but my network doesn’t allow me, I miss him so much. I make my way to find Yaya
“Hey Mah”
I say and she looks at me
“What's up?”
She asks
“my sim doesn’t work”
She laughs
“I guess we should have sorted that out before we left. You can use my phone, we’ll go and sort your sim issue out later”
She says handing me her phone
“Thank you so much Mah”
I say with a smile and then excuse myself and walk out. I head to the room I was in before and lay on the bed with my tummy and dial Yanga’s number and try videocall him, he answers after a while
“Hey Mah”
He says not looking and I giggle
“Hey did I wake you?”
I ask him and he chuckles
“Oh Hey babe, I miss you. I tried calling you but your phone doesn’t go through, how was your trip?”
He asks
“Well my phone is just a phone until we get my sim sorted. We travelled safely and I miss you so much”
I say and he smiles
“how are my grandparents?”
I chuckle
“They are really sweet, I see where your father gets his charming personality”
He laughs
“Hey that’s my grandfather!”
He warns making me laugh
“I’m just saying and besides, you are the way you are because of him. I didn’t know that your parents never told them about the rape incident”
He shrugs
“Yeah well grandpa was the perfect gentleman so he would have cut dad out of everything”
He says and I nod
“I see. Do how have you been? What's new? I miss you so much”
I say and he smiles
“I’d suggest phone sex but then we using my mother’s phone”
He says and I laugh
“We’ll live an-”
I don’t finish my sentence when Yaya’s phone indicates an incoming call
“Your father is calling, I have to return the phone”
I say and he sulks
“I know. We’ll talk when my simcard is sorted”
I say and then drop his call and answer Derrick’s call
“Mr Bess please hold on while I look for Yaya”
I say quickly and he chuckles
“Hello to you too Mercy. What's my wife’s phone doing with you?”
He asks and I chuckle walking out
“My simcard is currently not working dad”
I say and he laughs
“And so you were calling your boyfriend”
