-KYLE BESS
Someone covers my eyes
“Guess who?”
She says and I chuckle
“my one and only”
I say and she giggles removing her hands from my eyes, I turn around and face her
“how was your day?”
I ask her and she sighs
“hectic. Sometimes I don’t even know why I still work”
I chuckle
“you mean you don’t like working with me?”
I ask with a raised eyebrow and she giggles
“that’s not true. I love working with you but sometimes our job can be demanding”
She says and I wrap my arms around her waist
“it will be fine”
I say and kiss her forehead, she giggles
“Today I got word that my grandfather is gravely ill”
I tell her, she looks up at me
“I’m sorry babe”
She says and I nod
“I’ll be flying back down to check on him”
I report and she nods
“And what about Elaina?”
She asks and I shrug
“I’ll have to talk to her, she’s mostly in school but I’ll need to talk to her so that she doesn’t just decide to come over”
She nods and pouts
“I’m really sorry about your grandfather”
I nod and then bend to kiss her cute pink lips, I pick her up and place her ontop of the counter while still kissing her. She runs her hands on my back
“I thought we were going to make lunch”
She says in between our kiss
“I’m having my lunch now please let me”
I say and she breaks the kiss to laugh
“I’m not food”
She says and I chuckle
“You really have a way of ruining the moment”
I say and she rolls her eyes, her phone rings from the other room
“I have to get that”
She says, I help her get down and then she rushes to answer her phone, I follow her to take mine so that we can order in instead. When I am done with the call she comes to sit ontop of me
“Everything ok?”
I ask her and she nods
“My mother invited us for dinner tonight”
she says and my eyes widen in shock
“She says she wants to meet the guy that proposed to her daughter”
She says and I take her left hand and kiss her ring, a couple of days ago I popped the question and she said yes. I didn’t go all out with our busy schedules, I just woke up and asked her to marry me while we were laying in bed preparing to get up and shower and when she thought I was joking I pulled out the ring from the bed side drawer and took it out and showed it to her showing how serious I was about making her wife and she said yes.
“do I need to dress up? How is your mother?”
I ask nervously and she laughs
“Mom is chilled Kyle. She will love you, you just need to be your charming self”
I laugh
“I don’t recall charming you, if anything you hit on me”
She laughs and shoves me
“so what should I tell her?”
She asks and I shrug
“You were asking? I thought you already RSVP’d”
She rolls her eyes
“RSVP for us”
I tell her and she takes her phone and calls her mom placing her on loud speaker
“Mommy”
She says
“Hello my baby. And?”
Her mother asks
“We will see you tonight then. What time?”
Clark asks
“Come around 6pm honey. Your sister will also be here”
She looks at me and I shrug
“Mom come on, it's really not that deep”
Clark says and her mother laughs
“Of cause it is. You are getting married!!!”
Her mother points out
“Ok mom, we will see you later. Bye”
She says dismissively cutting the call, she rests her forehead on mine
“Everything ok?”
I ask her and she sighs
“My family is… I don’t know, not your usual Bess kind of family”
She says and I raise an eyebrow
“I’m not from a stable family Kyle. My parents divorced when I was young, my father left our mother for a younger lady and things at home were never the same again. I grew up always being compared to my sister, even with my job and unlike me she ate that all up and to hear that I will be marrying you will only make shiit worse”
she takes a deep breath and then exhales
“What do you mean marrying me?”
I decide to ask
“You’re a Bess Kyle and my family won't take that lightly. They will treat you some type of way, they value status above everything. My sister may even try to flirt with you because for once I got a man better than hers”
I chuckle and cup her cheeks
“I love you ok and your family won't change how I feel about you Clark. Tonight will go well”
I assure her and she nods
“I don’t know, I’m worried”
She says
“Look, lets just see how things go ok?”
She nods
“Just promise me one thing?”
She says holding out her pinky
“Ok”
I say hooking my pinkie finger into hers
“If things get out of hand we leave”
I nod
“Deal”
Our food arrives and we eat then later we shower and prepare for the dinner at her mother’s house. She punches in the coordinates and then the GPS navigates us to her mothers house.
“When you told me you were getting married I didn’t expect you to be marrying Kyle Bess”
Her sister says after opening the door for us
“Hi Clarisse, babe meet my sister, sis this is Kyle”
Clark introduces, I hold my hand out to Clarisse who pulls me in for a very awkward hug from my side
“Nice to meet you”
I say pulling away from her
“May we?”
Clark says and her sister moves aside and lets us in
“How did my sister bag you? No offense little sis but Kyle is way above your league”
Clarisse says
“None taken”
Clark says
“Offense taken. Clark is an amazing person and work partner”
I respond and Clarisse doesn’t respond
“Mom they here”
Clarisse calls out and her mother comes in and she smiles
“Clark hi, and who is this young man?”
The mother asks
“Honey meet my mother Cordelia, mom this is Kyle my boyfriend”
Clark says
“He’s a Bess mom, as in Damon Bess the famous lawyer and business man’s son”
