Katie had always believed that love was a choice.
That 'falling in love' was just an expression.
Oh, how wrong she was. When she fell, she fell hard. There was a fleeting sense of panic in the back of her mind, reminding her of everything that could go wrong, but it was pushed away from her train of thought by the pure exhilaration of clicking with someone so suddenly.
She had always figured that she could stop herself from becoming deeper in love with someone whenever she wanted to.
How naive she had been.
When she fell for Travis, there was no possible way of halting it. It would have been like jumping out of a moving train. But she didn't want to fall out of love with him. Ever.
-
Travis had never been in love. He'd thought he had, multiple times, but something about it always seemed artificial and temporary. Not with Katie.
She saw every side of him, both good and bad. Everything they shared was real.
He had fallen before, but every time, he caught himself. He didn't allow the exhilaration to bleed into his thoughts and alter the negative thoughts into positive ones.
Until Katie. With her, all reason flew out the window.
This love wasn't a choice.
It started as a shallow, more friendship-like bond, but over time, it grew stronger, like a light at the end of a dark tunnel, slowly moving forward and illuminating more space.
He didn't want to fall out of love with her. Ever.
Their love was the best thing that had happened to either of them. Ever.
