"He'll be okay, right?"
"Is it my fault? It's my fault, isn't it?"
"He's going to be just fine."
The calm voice cut through the sea of higher-pitched, unsure voices that had been barely registering with Travis as he sat up groggily, rubbing his temples.
He half expected to see Katie amongst the crowd of his half-siblings, shaking her head at him. But she wasn't there.
After he got the 'all-clear' from the Apollo camper who had assured the Hermes kids that he would be fine, Travis excused himself and wandered back to his cabin.
Of course she wasn't there.
It was stupid for him to think she'd just reappear so suddenly after nearly a week of disappearance.
A week didn't seem like that much time to be away from someone, but with Katie gone, it felt like a piece of his smile was missing. His signature smirk didn't feel right without her there.
It didn't help that he had no idea where she could be.
Sitting down heavily on his bunk, Travis tried to blink away the burning sensation of oncoming tears, focusing his attention on happier thoughts instead. It almost worked.
He visualized all the ways he'd described her eyes over the years, from 'annoyingly perfect moss green' to 'like grass on a summer's morning, still sparkling with dew'.
And then he pictured the Demeter shroud. It was the exact same color as Katie's eyes.
The smiles melted away, and the blues of the sky turned to tears.
A lone tear slid down Travis's face, and he couldn't even bring himself to brush it away.
One simple movement, and yet it felt like gravity was increasing on him, dragging him downwards.
Katie was missing, and he didn't know how to even begin to search for her.
