Arguments happened to every pair of people.

Katie and Travis knew that better than anyone else.

And yet here they were, in the midst of their worst one yet.

Precisely two months after they moved in together.

loving and fighting

accusing, denying

Katie had had her worries, she had had her misgivings, but Travis knew just how to sweep them away and tell her everything would be fine.

And she had believed him.

I can't imagine a world with you gone

the joy and the chaos, the demons we're made of

I'd be so lost if you left me alone

How stupid she'd been, she realized too late.

She couldn't allow one person to rip all sense from her.

Yet, he did it every day.

She still wanted to forgive him. Her heart was longing for her to forget this had happened, to tell him it was fine. To have him back.

She leaned against the locked door, before sliding down and resting her head in her knees.

you locked yourself in the bathroom

Taking a deep breath, she stood once more, before twisting the doorknob in such a way that the locking mechanism snapped temporarily. Travis had taught her that.

lying on the floor when I break through

Pushing the door open, she nearly bumped into Travis, who had been leaning against the wall, tear tracks crisscrossing down his face.

Taking his hand in a cautionary, questioning gesture, Katie pulled him to his feet, wrapping her arms around his neck as she did so.

I pull you in to feel your heartbeat

can you hear me screaming "please don't leave me"

Against her will, she relished in the warmth his own arms enveloping her brought.

They stood there, not speaking, not forgiving, not doing anything but thinking.

Considering.

They'd been through too much together to let everything fall to pieces because of one disagreement.

let me take your hand, I'll make it right

Katie barely registered Travis's whisper in her ear, because it was spoken so softly, "We can work this out, Kates."

She found herself unable to speak any louder than him when she replied, "Yeah. Yeah, we can."

I swear to love you all my life

Everything was delicate.

But it was still standing, and that was all that mattered.
