As soon as I was home, I hit my head against the wall. Why the hell did I agree to his stupid plans? Living with him? Why?

I passed my mom, who was sleeping, and went straight into my room. Pack? No, of course not. That insane fucker was going to drag me out of my house if push came to shove, I wasn't leaving out of my own will.

If he gave me a good reason, sure! I was open to moving if he thinks an assassin is out to get me. Or a bomb is planted underneath our house and will go off anytime soon. Or his mother was a fortune-teller and foretold that a lightning was going to struck me tonight.

Honestly, I'd think I'd accept anything, if it'd be an excuse to live with that guy, vexing as he may be.

I hit my head against the wall again.

No! Nothing! I meant nothing!

A frown swept over my face.

He had been so strange. His behavior, for starters, he never got so worked up over something. And then the passersby. I still felt their eyes on me, like little pins puncturing my skin. They couldn't have been glowing, though, that was obviously just my imagination.

That was hands down the weirdest shit I've ever went through. I had to find out more about it. Call me crazy, but it made me curious.

I slipped out of my pants and into my joggings. When I shoved my hands into my pockets, I felt the crumbled paper the cop gave me. Reality hit again.

Right. Hades.

Taking out the paper, I flattened it over my leg and folded it open. A small note slipped out and I caught it between my fingers, surprised. As I squinted my eyes to read it, my brown curls fell out of my bun.

I've been keeping him off your back, Ashy, don't blame me. Meet me at the library tomorrow after school, I need to ask you something.

So, he thought I read the note, huh. Ironic. Also, ironic he even has the cops under his command, making them give me his notes.

Wait a minute.

Keeping him off my back? Does he mean to claim he was the reason the cops didn't ask for Hades to be inspected sooner?

I scoffed aloud, tucking a curl behind my ear. Please. Even he didn't have that kind of power over people. The arrogance has really risen to his head now. Did he really think he could make-
