Shadows danced over Kye, his eyes gleaming lustfully. He watched me casually stretch my legs. Confidence was spread over his expression, but over mine as well, if only to mimic him.

Alright, I was looking forward to taking on his contest. I loved competition. I loved being taken seriously, even more.

"Don't you have superhuman strength?"

"Do you not?" he asked with a grin, as I tied my hair back again. "Ready?"

I nodded.

"Alright. Over this path, until the end of this row of trees. Three, two, one-"

We kept coming out as a tie. At first, I thought he was playing with me. Calculating that I'd get my hopes up, so he could crash them and suddenly go way faster.

But when after the fourteenth try he was panting heavily and his skin was glistening with sweat, I knew he was giving it his all like I was.

I couldn't help it. My feet flew over the ground like they always did, hardly even touching it. He was amazing, though. No one ever kept up with me. He was a first!

I inhaled deeply, my arms on my upper legs, taking in his heaving body after the fifteenth try of getting a winner out of us two. His cheeks were flushed and his lips parted. Damn. I'd believe he wasn't human just for his looks. For his running-skills, too, by the way. Wait, what did that make me?

"What does that say about your alpha-ness, hm? That you're tying with a human like myself?" I bumped against his shoulder, making him tumble over and fall on his backside, but not before pulling me along with him.

Within seconds, I found myself in the familiar headlock, pressed against his panting body. He smelled of sweat and Kye. He felt of muscle and softness.

"Say that again and you're dead," he threatened, his chest repeatedly changing pressure against my shoulder with a fast pace. If I wasn't already burning up, I was now by being so close and feeling him so distinctly.

This was the Kye I knew again.

"What are Chase and Jason?" I asked instead, ignoring his usual snappy declaration.

"Shifters."

"No kidding." I rolled my eyes, just to tick him off. "I meant, what rank."

"Hadn't figured that out yet?" His eyebrows lifted in a sarcasm-filled surprised expression, as I rolled my eyes yet again.

"You smell of sweat and you're way too hot. Can you let me go, so we can have a normal conversation?"

"Don't pretend you don't like it," he whispered, looming close. I pressed my hand against his face and pushed him away to where he was.

Yes I liked it! Spot on! I'm so hot for you I'd let you have my babies- or the other way around, whatever!

Instead, I grimaced. "There's not a fiber in my body that'd try to pretend something like that."
