I introduced Elle to Jesse later that day, and the former fell in love with the latter like anyone did. Jesse was the most precious human being on this earth. When school was over, we were still discussing going shopping, to which Elle was now invited as well. I was happy. I felt a little bit like I did every day in Michigan; careless and free.
When we stepped outside, the sun making us squint our eyes, the reason for my now miserable life was already waiting for me, leaning against his large, black car. His eyes were hooded, and his simple shirt matched his jeans perfectly.
Elle let out a surprised gasp at the sight of the perfect male, hitting me on the shoulder.
"Oh, the guy himself is waiting for someone!" she called, just hard enough for him to look up and regard the three of us.
I had hoped he'd be late so I could get home. I needed to be there for my mom tonight, and I'd rather throw myself off a bridge than beg Kye for letting me go home for the evening, when he knew very well why that was.
But I guess life was against me.
"Elle," Kye let out, as we got close enough. I didn't know why we went straight for the guy, but Elle seemed very set on talking to him instead of going home. Jesse trailed after us, hiding behind my back.
"Well now, Kye." She took his jaw and planted a kiss on his lips, making me flinch. "Here for Ashley, are we?"
It hurt. It fucking hurt. I didn't know what exactly did, but something about their exchange made me want to lose my shit and kill my new friend. I clenched my hands into fists and forced myself to glance away as Kye simply squeezed Elle in her upper arm. It felt like a thousand sharp pieces of glass rained down on me.
"I guess I am," he finally responded. "But I heard my beta came to visit Chase, today. Is he still here?"
Beta this, alpha that, Jesus Christ. Shut up already. Wait, did he mean Jason?
"Oh, I haven't seen him. Did that guy do something wrong again?"
Jesse grabbed my arm with her soft fingers and leaned up to my ear. Her blonde hair brushed over my skin, as I felt Kye watching us.
"Ashley? I wanted to talk to you about me and Chase..."
Not now! He can hear! I don't want to admit defeat to him! And I want to hear what Elle and Kye were on about!
I pursed my lips. "You can call me about it, alright?"
"Okay," she whispered.
"Well," Kye started, a grin playing on his lips. Stupid. "he flees from me like the devil he is. He still isn't getting it through his head he's supposed to listen to me- I think I need to beat some sense into him. Or else I'd have to evict the guy, and that'd be a shame."
"Right," Elle agreed. "Jason's pretty good. Just one hell of a troublemaker. I'll tell you once I know where he's hiding."
"There he is," I drily commented, nodding at the entrance, where the one in question and Chase just stepped into the light of day.
