"Lethal wounds?" Kye queried, as he softly rocked me.

Jason shook his head. "No. I can go back, finish it, if you want."

"No, that'll be alright. Please stay around the pack house for a few hours. They're getting way too hungry, if they start to attack betas." Kye frowned, his fingers tapping gently on my head to give comfort. "I thought it was finally under control again."

"It was, for a day. Rose told me alpha Luke is keeping prey from them. It's like he's trying to-"

"Not your place," Kye interrupted him with a warning tone.

Jason pursed his lips. "Right."

"Well, go off. I'm busy."

I rolled my eyes against his chest, though my fingers were still buried in his shirt like there was no tomorrow. Man, how pathetic I was at these times.

Jason mumbled a 'yes', before leaving swiftly and closing the door behind him.

Immediately, I tried to slip off his lap and escape Kye's claiming arms, but he grabbed me by the waist and placed me back against his chest. "Uh uh, you're not going anywhere."

"And why's that? I'm fine now, and I want to take a shower."

"Do I need to remind you I know how you feel? Surely not. You're staying here."

I glanced up at the ceiling and exhaled, trying to look very annoyed at his protective behavior, while inside I was feeling quite glad he was keeping me here, in his office. I felt safe around him.

My eyes darted from his large desk, where he was typing a few mails on his laptop, to the mattress on the floor. I was locked in between his body and the desk, and his chin was resting on my head as he worked.

It felt weirdly romantic.

"Where's the mattress for?" I asked, as I heard his thoughts wonder about whether he was going to be able to work like this. Probably not, I thought back.

"Sex," was his simple answer.

"With Elle? Or Mariah? Or both?"

"Oh." He typed the last sentence of a business proposal I understood nothing of, before sending the mail. "Both'd be good."

I scoffed, but that was only a mandatory reaction. Because I knew he was joking.

This was so, so weird at first, that I knew exactly what he was thinking and feeling, into every single detail. It definitely creeped me out. I took quite a long time getting used to it, but now it was fine.

It was quite fine, actually. It truly felt like he was mine.

We had an unspoken rule that we didn't comment aloud on each other's thoughts, as we didn't comment in thought in the middle of a conversation. I liked talking out loud way better anyway. His voice was the best sound in the world.
