Meredith's p.o.v

"Mason, I don't want to wear a dress tonight. I just want to be comfortable." I plead as I stand in front of her in the outfit I want to wear.
"Okay. I understand, babes. Dressing up isn't everyone's cup of tea. That flannel is totally cute." She says, pointing to the large grey and white flannel that hung loosely on my body while my legs were clad in a simple pair of jean shorts.
"Can I just," Mason pauses, stepping towards me and unbuttoning a few of the top buttons so a little more skin was showing, "There. That looks better."
I smile and thank her before turning back to face the mirror. I grab a hair elastic and pull my hair into a low ponytail before pulling a few framing pieces out in the front.
"You look very you and I like it." Mason coos from behind me.
"I think I'm gonna rock no makeup, too."
"You do whatever your little heart desires, but hurry up because we have to go pick up Helena and TJ." She says trying to hurry me along. I stuff all of my essentials into a small black backpack before turning my light off and stepping out of my bedroom. I pad down the hall and into the living room where my mom sat on the couch, her glasses on as she scrolled through the guide on the tv.
"Bye mom, I'll be back later." I smile, leaning down to kiss her cheek.
"Where are you girls off to?" She asks curiously.
"We're going to a night club."
"Ohh, sounds like fun. Be very careful ladies and have fun." She gives a warm smile.
"Thanks, mum. I'll try and be quiet when I come home."
"Oh please, Mere. You know I'm the heaviest sleeper on the planet. They could bulldoze the house and I wouldn't even know it." She laughs at herself, Mason and I joining in.
"Love you, ma."
"Love you more." She says before I shut the door.
"You're mom is the cutest." Mason says as we shuffle down the sidewalk to her car.
"I know. Such a blessing." I say, holding my hand to my heart thinking about how lucky I am to have been gifted with such a cool mom.
I make my way to the passenger side of the car when my phone buzzes from my back pocket. I grab it as I open the car door and step up into the passenger seat before checking the message.
Luke: did you leave yet?
Meredith: going to pick up Helena and Tj now, why?
Luke: Ashton told me you'll be in the city tonight.
Meredith: I'll be fine, Lu.
Luke: if I would have known, I would have held you hostage in my room from Mason.
Luke: just text me when you get home tonight so I can sleep knowing you're okay.
My heart just about explodes at how adorable he sounds.
"Luke?" Mason asks and I nod my head, handing her my phone she can read what he says.
"Holy fuck is that adorable."
"Tell me about it."
I quickly begin typing a message back to Luke.
Meredith: I will. xx
"So have you guys like—kissed yet?" Mason blurts out. I gasp and shake my head quickly, "No. I told you, Luke and I can never happen."
"I don't see why you can't happen though." She says as she begins the journey to Helena's where her and Tj wait for our arrival.
"There's so many reasons. Ashton would be so pissed and would forbid us from being anything more than friends."
"Meredith, you're twenty-one years old and still letting your brother have some type of hold on who you can and can't go out with?"
"It's not even like that, Mason. Luke is just a rare case where he's my brothers best—"
"Yeah, yeah I know the whole spiel, but if Ashton loves you and Luke, he wouldn't hold you guys back from making each other happy."
I suppose she was right, but I would never ask Ashton for permission because I'm scared of his response. It could either go wonderful or it could go horribly wrong.
"Well there's also the fact that if Luke and I didn't work out, I feel like there would be some horrible tension. Or if we were fighting, it would be so hard to all hangout together, y'know?"
"That's when you have to be an adult and just get over it. Gosh, leave it to you to think the worst of the worst. What makes you think things would go bad between you and Luke?" Mason asks.
"I don't know."
You just have a knack for thinking no one can possibly like you because you're dim and oblivious.
"You don't know?"
"Correct. I don't know. I just, know?"
"Yeah, cause that makes sense." Mason chuckles as we pull up to Helena's house. Mason honks her horn twice and soon, Helena and Tj stumble out of the house giggling.
"Think they pregamed?" I ask.
"There's no way they didn't."
Helena and Tj open the car doors into the backseat and shuffle in.
"What's up bitches! Ready to get out party on? Oh, Meredith. You look so cute, babygirl." Helena giggles and my mind immediately wanders to Luke calling me that earlier today and I smile to myself.
"Thanks babes." I smile warmly at her.
"Oh for sure. I missed you. How are you?" She asks.
"I'm good. How are you?"
"Eh, I'm okay. Sorry I couldn't come to your welcoming party. I had to pick up a shift for one of my coworkers." She apologizes, but I shake my head, "It's okay—we get to spend tonight together."
"I know! I'm excited!" Tj chirps.
"First two rounds of tequila shots are on me, ladies." Helena says.
"Say less."
