Meredith's p.o.v

The warmth of my bed and the comforting morning light peaking through my blinds makes me never want to leave my bed. But my peaceful morning is soon very rudely interrupted by a knock at my bedroom door, and part of me expected a group of rambunctious boys to dive bomb onto my small body and absolutely harass me to make them some sort of breakfast.
But as my door gently opens and my beautiful mother's face appears, I'm suddenly perfectly fine with leaving my bed to pad across the room and give her a tight, suffocating hug.
We said nothing as her gentle hand stroked the back of my hair in the most loving, motherly way and I instantly felt even more at home than I had before. The feeling of being in my mothers caring arms made me feel incredibly happy.
My mother and I had always been close, rarely fighting at all. She was a very easy going mom, with the right amount of trust and friend like behavior while she balanced it with respect and authority.
I was always a good kid, never got into any trouble—at least I never got caught—so we never had any trust issues with each other. As long as she trusted and respected me, I returned the same behavior. She truly was a one of a kind mom.
"I missed you so so much, my little girl." She says gently before pulling herself away and planting a kiss to my forehead.
"I missed you too, ma." I smiled as her hand cupped my cheek. She stared back at me with a look of happiness and pride, "You've grown so much—well, maybe not vertically." She laughs.
"What is it with everyone and the short jokes?" I question, referring to the many teasing jokes from the boys yesterday on my lacking in the height department.
My mom was a petite woman, but she was still taller than me, so I could only wonder why I got stuck with the short gene.
"Boys making fun of you again?" She asks, raising and eyebrow and I simply nod my head in response. Her eyes squint shut when she smiles before she waves me down the hall.
I shut my bedroom door behind me and pad behind my mother down the hall and into the kitchen, which she has also beautifully redone with custom white cabinetry to the ceilings and a sky blue back splash with white stone counter tops. The space was more open and airy than I had remembered it.
"Coffee?" Mom asks and I nod my head rapidly, itching to taste the familiar liquid considering I basically survived off of it at school.
"Creamer? Sugar?"
"Nope, just simple black coffee."
"Oh, you're so strange."
I laugh and gape my mouth at her snide comment, "Awful rude of you, mama." And she simply shrugs her shoulder before pouring a generous amount of Sweet Cream creamer into her own coffee cup.
"It's only the truth, my love." She jokes before standing across from me as I park myself on a barstool.
"So tell me about school. How were finals?" She asks as she lifts the mug to her lips and takes a small sip before setting it back down onto the counter.
"Really good. I was exhausted afterwards. Completely drained from the late nights of studying, but I did really well on all of them." I say with pride at my achievements, but my mother looks even more pleased.
"Good, so your scholarship is still in place?" She asks and I nod my head, "Yes ma'am. All ready for my last year."
"I'm so proud of you, sweetie. Really, you have made me the happiest mom in the world. I love watching you grow and succeed." She smiles warmly as I take a sip of my coffee.
"Thank you, mum. It means a lot."
"Any cute boys over there?" She asks as she wiggles her eyebrows and I can't help but laugh at her expression.
"Eh—none of them really blew up my skirt, but they're very friendly—maybe even a little too friendly." I say before shaking my head rapidly and laughing. "College boys can always be a little too friendly." She laughs along with me.
"So what are you going to do when you finish school? Will you move back here?" She asks, looking at me deeply as she awaits for my answer. I shrug my shoulders, unsure of what I wanted to do. Of course I had an idea, but it was just an idea.
"I'm not sure. I was thinking about staying over there, but I think I would break Ashton's heart or worse—Calum's." I joke at the end. She gives a small smile before placing her hand on top of mine.
"Oh, Meredith," she pauses, "Don't let Ashton be the reason you don't do what you think will be best for you. He can always come and visit you when he misses you and so can those other three goofballs, too."
I give a small smile, "I know—but like I said, I don't know what I want to do yet and that's a problem that can wait until December." I joke which earns a laugh from my mom.
"Well, you know the door is always open for you to come back and stay with me until you figure out what you want to do, my love. I'll always be here." She says as she runs the pad of her thumb on the top of my hand.
"I know and I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me, mum. I love you."
"Oh, I love you too, sweetheart. My pride and joy—speaking of pride and joy, what's your brother doing today? Usually he stops by to have a cup with me before he goes about his shenanigans with those three idiots." She jokes, though she can't deny she absolutely adored Mikey, Cal and Luke and treated them like they were her own kids.
"I don't know—he hasn't texted me yet today. I wander what he's up to."
"I can answer that—nothing good."
