Luke's p.o.v
* * * *
"Ashton she's leaving." I yell frantically through the phone as I speed down the highway.
"What do you mean she's leaving?" Calum asks from the other line.
"I just went to her house—Ashton, your mom said she's at the airport."
"What's she doing there?" Ashton asks while I hear the jingle of his keys. "She's going back to the states—we have to beat the flight." I say, pressing on the gas.
"Do you know exactly where she's going? We don't even know what flight she's on." Ashton says, the sound of the car door shutting loudly and the voices of Mason, Calum and Mikey talking in the background.
"I don't know, but we have to hurry."
"We're on our way to the airport." Ashton says.
"Okay, bye." I quickly hang up the phone and dial Meredith's number again, hoping she'll answer the phone so I can tell her how much I fucking love her.
It rings a few times before sending me to voicemail.
"Mere—baby, listen to me. I know where you are. Please pick up the phone, there's so much I have to say to you."
I hang up the phone, pressing on the gas a little more and speeding down the highway. She can't leave—there's so much I had to tell her—so much I need to show her, and I have every intention to drag her off of that plane and beg her to listen to me.
I could feel my heart beating in my ears and my chest as I pulled into the parking lot of the airport. I barely park my car before jumping out of the car, slamming it shut before running across the parking lot.
I run across the road, almost getting hit by a car before it slammed in the brakes, the guy inside beeping at me in anger. I ignored him and made my way into the building, looking at all of the flights that were up on the screen.
Vegas, Illinois, South Dakota. None of them sounded right, I've never heard her mention any of these places.
I scan for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where her school was located—Nothing.
"Luke!" Ashton yells. I turn around to see the gang running towards me frantically. "I-I don't know where'd she be going—anyone got any ideas?"
"Well she can't go back to school—they don't go back for another three weeks."
"Okay, does anyone know where her roommate lives?" Mason asks. She sure never told me anything about her roommate.
Ashton snaps his fingers, "Call my mom."
"Why? Ashton, how is that gonna help us?"
"My mom knows who Meredith's roommate is—I'm sure Meredith mentioned something to her." Ashton says as he dials his moms phone number.
He stands quiet for a few moments while we all look around for her. Maybe she was walking to her terminal? Or sitting on a bench waiting?
"Mom! Mom, where does Meredith's roommate live when they aren't at school?" Ashton asks.
He listens closely and looks at the screens full of locations, "Got it, thanks. Love you." He says quickly before hanging up.
"Flight one-thirty-seven, Los Angeles, California." He says before leading us all in the direction of the terminal.
"You got all that from your mom?" Mikey laughs.
"She said Gwen's family recently moved there when her brother got accepted to UCLA, that's why Meredith decided to come back this summer." Ashton says as we approach the terminal. The flight attendant was shutting everything down, so we hurried over to her in hopes we could negotiate.
"Excuse me! We need to get on this flight for just a moment." Ashton smiles.
"I'm sorry, I can't let you do that, sir. The plane is about to take off." She smiles empathetically.
"Listen to me—my girlfriend is on that plane and she can't leave." I plead, but she just shakes her head, "There's nothing I can do—I'm sorry."
"You aren't listening to me! She can't stay on that plane! I'm gonna lose her, you have to let me on!" I beg, but she just stares blankly at me.
"I-I'm sorry sir, I have to go." She says, eyeing security just inches away from detaining me. She hurries away into the terminal to enter the plane.
Silence falls between the group—the only thing to be heard was the hustle and bustle of people trying to make their flights and the intercom system yelling out flight numbers.
"So that's it? She's just gone like that?" I laugh while snapping my fingers once.
"Lu—I'm sorry." Calum says quietly, resting his hand on my shoulder.
I felt empty—like there's nothing else I could do besides sit and think about what I wish I could change—things I should have said to her.
I suppose this is what I get— this is what I get for spilling our little secret.
