Meredith's p.o.v
*        *        *        *

I unlock the front door to my house and lead Luke down the hallway to my bedroom. I shut the door behind me and scurry Luke and I into my bathroom. I can't help but get a little déjà vu when I put the lid from the toilet down and instruct Luke to sit down. He's quiet, but does what he's told.

"This seems familiar." I say, trying to make Luke calm down a little bit, but he says nothing. I tug my bottom lip between my teeth before grabbing my first aid kit from the vanity.

"Luke—Say something."

Luke looks up at me before he reaches out and wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me close to him and resting the side of his head against my stomach. My heart practically explodes at the adorable action and I find my hand sinking into his curly locks and scratching his head.

"Lu, as much as I love this, I want to clean you up."

"Just—wait." Luke demands, and I decide to let him have a moment to, hopefully, calm down. After a few more minutes of silence, nothing but Luke's quiet breathing being heard, he lets go of me and I clean his knuckles and wrap them lightly with gauze. I move on to clean his lip the best I can without hurting him before putting away my first aid kit.

"Thank you." Luke says quietly. I smile lightly at him, "I should be the one thanking you."

Luke looks up at me, his eyes have finally returned a light, soft color like I'm used to.

"You don't have to thank me."

"I do."

"No you don't, Mere."

"I want to."

He's quiet again before he looks back up at me, his eyes running down my body before meeting my eyes again.

"Does your lip still hurt?" I ask. He shrugs before letting out a heavy sigh, "Doesn't feel great."

"I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"I just–feel like it's my fault."

"Why would this be your fault?" Luke asks, his eyebrows knitting together in the middle, and when I say nothing, Luke speaks up again.

"Talk to me, babygirl."

"I—Well you got into a fight with Nate twice because of me."

"I chose to fight him, Meredith. That was all me."

"You can't keep getting into fights with people. You're going to end up hurt—badly hurt, Lu."

"I couldn't just let him walk away without a scratch after the way he talked to you."

"I know, I know."

"I don't think you do," Luke pauses to stand up. I look down at my feet, but Luke lifts my chin so I have to look at him, his eyes intensely gazing back at me.

"I could have killed him."

"Don't say that."

Luke shakes his head before swiftly lifting me onto the vanity, our faces level with each other. Luke shifts his eyes back and forth between mine.

"I would do anything to keep you safe."

"I think you've proven that time and time again." I laugh lightly, referring to the now 4 times he has beaten Nate up for me.

"He didn't hurt you, did he?" Luke asks, taking a deep breath as he awaits my answer. I decide to leave out the part where he basically tried to grope me because that would only make Luke angrier than he already was.
