Meredith's p.o.v
* * * *

Mom dipped out a few hours ago for her next shift, and still no text or calls from Ashton, but I received strange texts from the other 3 bafoons.

Luke: black or burgundy?

Meredith: for what, nimrod?

Luke: the hostility is not needed, little girl. now answer the question

I'd be lying if I said my heart didn't flutter at him calling me "little girl." I was only 3 years younger than Luke, but I guess being younger than Luke gives him the right to call me "little."

Meredith: black, always.

Luke: k.

Meredith: that's it?

And then no reply.

Calum: hey, what's that one hair gel you told me to buy?

Meredith: I didn't tell you to buy it, it's for girls. I told you I needed to buy it.

Calum: oh. well what hair gel would you recommend for men?

Meredith: idk, I'm not a man.

Calum: well you've been helpful.

Meredith: it's been a pleasure.

Again, no response after that.

Mikey: who's a little bitch?

Meredith: you're such an asshole.

Mikey: I'm very aware, captain obvious.

Meredith: well I just thought I would reassure you.

Mikey: don't assume I need reassurance. I'm not an insecure peasant.

Meredith: did you need something? Or can I politely ignore you now?

Mikey: ignorant prick, I'll figure it out myself.

Meredith: figure out what?

Again, no response.

What kind of game were they playing? The kind where I must be the one who's losing, apparently. Considering I have no idea where any of them are, let alone if Ashton is even alive.

And then it's like they read my mind, because the familiar sound of the front door opening and shoes tapping against the floor, getting louder as they near my bedroom.

My bedroom door swings open and the 4 boys peak their heads in and stare at me. I stare back, neither sides saying a word before Ashton announces, "Attack!" And they charge at me, yelling, before dive bombing me in my bed, crushing my tiny body.

Later than expected, but still expected.

They all begin to pile off me and I swipe my hair out of my face before grumbling and crossing my arms over my chest while they laugh and make themselves comfortable in my bed. Their long bodies taking up almost the entirety of my queen sized bed.

"Not. Funny, boys." I grimace at them before scrunching my nose to keep from letting a giggle slip past my lips.

"Right—because it was hilarious." Mikey says matter-o-factly before cracking his knuckles.

"Ashton—you were M.I.A today. What was that about?" I ask as I turn to him. He shrugs, "You know I can't keep secrets—I had to stay away for my own good."

"Secret? What secret?" I ask, cocking an eyebrow upward in confusion. The boys all glance back and forth at each other.

"We're throwing you a welcoming party at our place!" Calum announces and the boys all throw up their best jazz hands.

I laugh, "Oh god, are you serious? A party? For me?" I ask, not necessarily excited that the party is solely focused around me and only me.

I never loved being the center of attention. Even in high school, everyone knew me, but I kept to myself and tried not to draw too much attention to myself, and that didn't change when I went to college.

"Yes. You deserve one! I'm sure a lot of your friends missed you when you left, so we invited everyone we know. This party is going to be huge." Ashton smiles proudly at himself for coming up with such a grand plan.

Ashton always called the shots in our group. Anything Ashton says goes and anyone who had a problem with it goes too. Not to mention, he came up with the greatest shenanigans and adventures to get ourselves into and I was a little jealous of his creative mind.

"Oh—you guys really didn't have to, y'know?" I ask and it's Luke's turn to chime in thoughtfully.

"We wanted to, Mere. It'll be fun, I promise." He smiles, his blue eyes shifting back and forth between my green ones.

Heat rises to my cheeks and I look down at my small fingers in my lap. "Well let's go the—"

"Hold the fuck up," Mikey pauses, "No offense, Mere, but you can't go looking like that." Mikey says as he waves his hand at my appearance.

I saw no problem with a simple pair of leggings and one of my Pitt crewnecks, but apparently it bothered someone in the group. I just laugh off his attempt to insult me, knowing he meant it lightheartedly and he didn't actually think I was revolting to look at.

"Okay, well what am I suppose to wear?" I ask, tilting my head to the side as I looked amongst the four boys faces. They looked at each other for answers.

"Well—what would you wear when you went out with your girly friends to a night club?" Calum asks. I shrug, "A dress and some heels? Maybe some kind of—"

"That's it," Mikey snaps his fingers, "wear a dress and heels. It'll be perfect." He says, getting a little too excited for my liking.

"O-Okay. Erm," I pause, pushing myself off the bed and shuffling over to my closet. I open the doors and begin to rummage through, pulling out various dresses and showing the boys.

"Mmm—have any nice black ones?" Calum asks, his chin rested on his hands. I shrug, "I'm sure, it's my favorite color."

"I can tell." Luke says, looking into my closet which was mostly black clothing, with a small section of colored clothes in the back. I giggle at myself for being so stuck in my ways.

I continue looking through when suddenly Calum begins to freak out at the dress I'm currently holding up.

"Stop right there—that's the one." He says. It was a simple satin black dress with short sleeves and a bow tied at the front of it.

"Oh, I don't know Cal. I remember this dress being very—erm—short." I say, tugging my bottom lip between my teeth. I remember the night I wore this out to a night club on a Friday, a week after I had turned 21. The amount of men that were gawking at me that was embarrassing, to me at least, and I hated every second of it. I don't really remember why I kept it—I could've sworn I gave it to my friend Asia.

"Oh who cares? It's pretty, it's simple and if you like it, you should wear it." Ashton reasons with me and I smile at his supportive brotherly spiel.

"Alright, I'll give it a whirl—now get out so I can get ready."
